I got approved for a Blue Badge parking permit

I got approved for a Blue Badge parking permit! I applied online and got an appointment for an assessment. I took my new UK neurologist report, meds list  etc., walked around a bit, answered detailed questions and was done. The badge is going to make driving less stressful.

You were required to attend an assessment?

I finally got my GP to support that I need one, so I'm applying now. Fingers crossed I'm approved, parking is a nightmare here so I'm worried they won't.

Yes, because I don't receive UK benefits, so there wasn't any UK government documentation of my condition.

Take any documents from your GP or specialists about your condition. I showed them a copy of my US disabled tag application  from my application in 2014. It showed them it's an ongoing issue. Good luck.

When I applied, I was still subject to immigration control (not receiving benefits), but they just contacted my GP and I was approved.  Odd that our experiences were so different.

Perhaps it's a regional variation?

I'll have to go through a mobility assessment, and an annual one when it's renewed (if approved). They don't give them away very easily to people not receiving benefits, and their cuts will have a knock on effect as benefits become more difficult to claim.

My letter says I won't have to get it renewed. Everyone's condition is different.

Exactly.

My wife’s brother has spina biffida and is disabled in that he is partially paralyzed from the waist down, has one leg with splints and walks with the aid of a cane. He works full time as a lawyer and has never been on any benefits but every few years is called in for an assessment for his driver mobility badge. His last assessment was a couple of years ago at a local pub. The doctor was in a room on the first floor but the pub had no elevator. His assessment had to be done on the ground floor where a wedding reception was in progress. He said it was ridiculous even though he fully accepted  why they do this, even though his spina biffida is NEVER going to get better and his paralysis is going to continue to get worse.
