Oh, happy day!
« on: May 24, 2019, 03:44:11 PM »
I forgot to post it here... The day has finally come.  Theresa May sobbed on camera, and I got to see it.  The night of her snap election had some off-camera tears, and I could definitely tell, but today she lost composure on camera!  It was glorious!

Oh, also, she announced when she would leave office.

I thought it was rather sad, really. An impossible woman given an impossible task, but unable to quit. ::)

And the sequel is shaping up to be worse. What part of the EU has signed off, after negotiating in good faith, on the agreement and there will be no changes to it do they not get down there in London? They can parade the entire cast of characters through, and no still means no.

Nothing to do with "good faith".  It was the EU who wanted  withdrawal negotions in that order and they knew that  nothing was agreed until everything was agreed: that was very clear from the start. The EU also mentioned that no UK government can be held to what a previous government has said. A new PM means a new UK government .

The worst thing from the EU's point of view, is a Brexiteer as a PM: May was a Remainer. The EU have enough problems with other anti EU, EU countries and the UK has a lot of votes. The EU also have the problems of the EU elections; for the same reasons: results known on Sunday night.

I do remember your thread before about getting more benefit money in other EU countries, but I think I pointed out on that that it was the Labour goverment who started the benefit changes when, for the first time ever, the UK's annual  welfare bill was more the UK takes in Income Tax. One of the first things the Labour government did was to bring in medicals for those who asked for benefits as they were sick, and they gave this contract to ATOS in about 2005.

The welfare changes were on their way when Labour went out of government and the Conservatives and LibDems continued with them. It took both major political parties to vote the Welfare Reform Bills into law.

Then they seemed to have looked at what benefits were popular with those who are a foreign national/ who were a foreingn national, and have ended or changed those too. The changes seem to be on course and we saw one major benefit change start from December and another end last week.

An impossible woman given an impossible task...

I disagree. When Cameron resigned May could've kept her head down and waited for someone else to take charge like the Brexiteer cowards in her party who knew they couldn't deliver the fantasy they'd promised, but she didn't.

... I think I pointed out on that that it was the Labour goverment ...

TL;DR - "Yes, the Tories are ba$tards, but Labour are also ba$tards."

It was the EU who wanted  ...

If there was a Nobel Prize in Pointing the Finger of Blame Elsewhere, I'd nominate you.

Are saying that you didn't know it was the EU who wanted withdrawal agreement talks in that order? And that you didn't know that it was everything or nothing?

It was a case of whatever government we had, having to bring in the welfare reforms. That's why governments have continued to carry on with the welfare reforms. We can't have a welfare bill that is more that the country takes in Income Tax! It's why the UK then brought in an annual welfare bill cap.

There is a great British slang word for this sort of defensive blaming: "whataboutery".

May would get a sly grin when she would say 'the previous government", where is the grin now?

Are saying that ...
It was a case of whatever ...

"Blah, blah, blah it wasn't the Tories' fault. We've been running things for 9 years, but the current situation is the fault of Labour and the EU."
