Choose between:

1. It's the day you put unwanted gifts back in their boxes to return to the stores

2. It's the day that tradesmen used to call for their "Christmas Box", and employers gave out gifts to faithful employees.

I think the second is vaguely right ...

Apparently it's from the middle ages - when servants had to work Christmas Day - they were given the day off after Christmas to visit their families etc. As the servants were getting ready to leave for the day - they were given gift boxes.

And then there is something to do with the church boxes of donations were distributed the day after Christmas, which is the Feast of Stephen.

I could be wrong though....

A belated Happy Birthday! Mine was on Christmas Day - but at least I had a pretty good idea what that holiday was ;)

a british friend of mine said the following when i asked about boxing day:

"As far as I can work out Boxing Day is the part of Christmas when you see the relatives you don't like enough to spend Christmas with!"
