Went with the Boots with Deet. Only used it around our ankles (sprayed on our clothing). No bites, no ticks.

Daughter had a midge bite her arm and now understands all the fuss. For some reason the midges we encountered walked around on me and then flew away without biting.... ;D

Hah. Probably a vitamin deficiency. Pro'lly don't taste good to bugs.
Of course, the first instant I'd have gotten bitten and I'd have unleashed serious chemical warfare!
