Priority processing for Tier 2 work visa extension
« on: June 27, 2019, 01:56:31 PM »
Does anyone know how long it will take us to get a visa appointment in London for priority processing? My understanding is that we complete everything online, book the appointment, and then go in person. I am just hoping the appointment can be secured quickly, because we need the visas and BRP cards in hand by the beginning of September, for a trip to the US.  The visa expires 31 August and I plan to apply for the new one 3 August.

It's very hit and miss.  I suspect you are cutting the timeline way too fine though.  Personally, I would recommend not booking the trip until you have your new visa.  Or take out really really really good travel insurance so you can be reimbursed if you do not have your visa in time.

Even with priority processing and the 10 day decision? I spoke to UKVI today and they seemed to think we'd be fine to travel by 6 September if I apply 3 August.  Of course, they can't guarantee anything.

I was under the impression that I have to wait until 28 days before the visa expires, but they said that's so our visas last until ILR.  Our second visa should be 3 years long just as this one is, so that's not really a concern.  Maybe I should go ahead and apply early next month, still using priority processing?

You *really* can't count on UKVI to meet their dates.  It's likely to be fine, but we've had WAAAAAYYYY to many people not get their visas within the promised timeframe.

And you'll have to be willing to travel to get an appointment quickly.  Again, you may be lucky and get one right by you when you wanted it.  Try having a go at the website and see when they are currently booking for in your area.  You may find the first appointment is a few weeks out.

And you are correct, you can apply 28 days prior to your visa's expiration date.

OK I see.

Yes, the 28 days. I know with some visas, that's a hard and fast rule, but with the work visa, it simply says to apply before the visa expires.  Today on the phone with UKVI, I was told that I could apply earlier than that, since with a 3 year visa, we will be eligible for ILR in plenty of time.
