my update on my non meat products ive tried

the linda mccartney sausages tasted like corned beef.  not what i want in a sausage, but if i mashed them up and added onions it would make a nice corned beef hash.

i really disliked the texture of the quorn leek and pork sausages.  maybe i could try the mince in meat sauces....but that's it.

bother.  looks like i'm making my own veggie burgers (which are better for me anyway)

I just want to say it has been great to lurk on this thread since my daughter has announced she doesn't want to eat meat anymore. I cant say that I plan to join her-- but do want to support her and appreciate any tips!

A friend of mine once described Quorn sausages as tasting like "2p pieces"  because of the metallic aftertaste.

Helena, have a look at the thread "are there any vegans here" there are some good links there.  If you don't want to be cooking lots of separate meals for your daughter then you'll find some of the meat substitute products useful.  Maybe take your daughter along to a Holland & Barrett or the frozen vegetarian section at your local supermarket and let her pick out what she thinks she wants.  If you're looking for a veggie cookbook, a great one to start with is "Cheap and Easy" by Rose Elliott.  Sleazy title but good recipes and nutrition advice.  All of Rose Elliott's books are great actually.

I have been reading the vegans thread also-- and booked mark a site or two. We went shopping together on Sunday and she picked out some products to try. Thanks for the cookbook suggestion, I will definately check it out!

Helena & others, in case you haven't already found it, thought you might find this link to the BBC food site vegetarian section useful, lots of nutrition advice.
