I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

I saw that. Nancy Pelosi should also step down.

Read about this whole ordeal yesterday and I'm not even sure I understand how people can say that what he said WASN'T super racist and that he's not a racist at this point...he's reached a point where he's been allowed to behave this way for so long that he's being bold enough to be outwardly racist without any fear there will be consequences for his words/actions (but, unfortunately, I don't hold out much hope that this time will be different and he will actually face any action beyond people just calling him out for being a racist).

This is hate speech.

I agree, it is disgusting. Unfortunately hate speech is protected by the first amendment, not that this President cares one little bit about the Constitution.

The most hurtful thing to me is how many millions agree with him, voted for him and will vote for him again.

I do completely agree with you that hate speech is protected. It sucks, but I am completely in support of freedom of speech (it's a VERY important right to have). While I don't like what he's saying, he has the freedom to say it and I have the freedom to hate it and disagree with it.

I just find it crazy how many people say and honestly believe  that what he's saying isn't horrible . You're right that it's scary how many people voted for him and will vote for him again. I would not be surprised if he got a second term and I don't expect him to get impeached because of those loyal supporters who will beg, borrow, and steal for him as they see supporting him as supporting America.

Except hate speech can have consequences, in any other role a public official saying these things would be asked to resign, or forced to. In employment you would lose your job for not representing the companies values. He is the leader of a country, and apparently there are no consequences for him because Pelosi is a terrible speaker of the house.

Truly terrifying.

How have we ended up with a racist, fascist lunatic, with the full backing of the Republican Party, in charge of our country?

I definitely wouldn't call it the full backing, but even one person trying to refute the very black and white words is too many IMO.

The most disturbing thing to me is that he doesn't even bother to deny what he said was racist, but simply says a lot of people agree with him.

Has anybody been listening to "It could happen here"
https://overcast.fm/+ROsao2E-Y

Here's the blurb, it's really well made :
"In this nine-part series Robert Evans will walk listeners through exactly how a second American Civil War could happen. Using hard facts, historical anecdotes and his own experiences reporting from two real civil wars, he’ll leave you believing it COULD happen here.

Each episode reveals more of our possible future, covering the mix of protests and terrorism that might spark such a conflict and walking through how the government would try to stop it. From drone bombs assassinating police officers, to a rural insurgency starving America’s cities, everything he will talk about is backed by real-world examples and the opinions of worried experts.

This is not conspiracy-mongering or a panicked shout into the abyss. This is a sober dissection of the Second American Civil War, before it happens. "

It's not really even about Trump, the author is more convinced that the real dividing line will be about religion and rural versus urban.
