FLR(M) Document Checklist & Queries
« on: July 16, 2019, 12:41:33 PM »
Hi Everyone, It's been years since I've been back but here I am again trying to plan ahead  ;)

I have a couple of questions that I'm hoping you guys could help with  :)

My husband arrived in the UK on 5th August 2017, am I correct in believing that we will be able to apply for his extension at the start of Feb 2020?

In regards to the correspondence, it took over a year before we could get enough proof together to put him as joint on my bank account. We do have some post spotted here and there from HMRC, NHS, DWP but I wanted to ask does the post have to be from a government body?

And finally I have created a full checklist for when we are ready to apply and I'm hoping we aren't missing anything.

Applicant
FLR(M) application form
IHS surcharge receipt
Copy of current passport
Copy of previous passport (with the entry clearence stamp on - we though he had lost it but we found it after receiving the new one)

Sponsor
Copy of my current UK passport

Finances
6 months certified payslips
6 months certified bank statements showing the deposit of every single payslip
Letter from employer stating ALL of the following:
   i) current employment and salary
   ii) length of employment
iii) length of time earning current salary
   iv) type of employment

Optional but recommended:
- original job contract

Accommodation
Letter from parents as we live with them (owners of the property)
Deeds from the land registry
Copy of parents passports

Relationship
Marriage certificate
6 correspondence documents: I need to go through the mountain of mail we have still. I will include a letter explaining if there are any gaps or not enough sources.

Am I missing anything?

Thank you

If he arrived 5th August 2017, he will be eligible to apply from 8th January 2020 (28 days before 5th February 2020).

According to the old paper FLR(M) form, acceptable sources of evidence include:
• Letters or other documents from government departments or agencies, for example HM Revenue and Customs, Department for Work and Pensions, DVLA, TV Licensing.
• Letters or other documents from your GP, a hospital or other local health service about medical treatments, appointments, home visits or other medical matters
• Bank statements/letters
• Building society savings books/letters
• Council tax bills or statements
• Electricity and/or gas bills or statements
• Water rates bills or statements
• Mortgage statements/agreement
• Tenancy agreement(s)
• Telephone bills or statements

Your document list looks good, though I don't believe you need copies of your parents' passports, and of course, you'll need to make sure your 6 items of correspondence are all okay when you've sorted through your mail :).

We are intending to apply in  the first few weeks of February due to money as we are intending to use the premium service but I have now sorted through our mountain of mail. It was so difficult getting post for my hubby, especially with most places wanting to go paperless

Could someone take a quick look and see if this seems all good? He arrived in August 2017 for reference :)

August 2017 - November 2017
Letter from DWP/Jobcentre with his NIN (September) - Him
Letter from Bank (October) - Me

December 2017 - March 2018
Letter from Nation Express regarding his direct debit (December) - Him (We don't have anything else for him in that period)
Letter from HMRC with year tax code (January) - Me

April 2018 - July 2018
Credit card statement (April) - Me
Letter from bank (May) - Him

August 2018 - November 2018
EE Phone Bill (November) - Me
NHS GP Registration Letter (November) - Him

December 2018 - March 2019
Bank Statement (March) - Joint

April 2019 - July 2019
Appointment letter from optician (July) - Him
EE Phone Bill (July) - Me

August 2019 - November 2019
Bank Statement (September) - Joint - We can include October's statement once we receive it if this is better.

December 2019 - February 2019

I understand the challenge that this proof of cohabitation/relationship evidence presents (especially with everybody pushing you to go paperless!), but if at all possible, when you have separate items for the two of you, they should be in the same month.

Your gap from the April 2018-July 2018 set to the August 2018-November 2018 set is too long.  Your item goes seven months (April to November), and his is only slightly better at six months (May to November).

Rather than thinking of it as chunks of time, you need to find individual months, evenly spaced, and find an item for each of you from that moment in time.  Aim for 4 to 5 months between each set of items.

If his is the more difficult supply of post, do the best you can to get six evenly-spaced items for him, then work yours to match his months.

Edited to add: If you absolutely cannot get his to be perfectly spaced, do the best you can.  You can't give them what you don't have.  It will be okay.

9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!
8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)

Thank you so much jfkimberly, I really appreciate the info :)

I've re-worked our documents with your advice in mind and this is what I have come up with:

September 2017
Letter from bank - Me
Letter from DWP confirming his NIN: Him

January 2018
Letter from National Express Confirming his direct debit - Him
Letter from HMRC with year tax code - Me

May 2018
Credit Card statement - Me
Letter from bank - Him

September 2018
Credit Card statement (September) - Me
Letter from his employer's pension provider (August) - Him

The smaller gap here is due to the lack of post between September and January 2019

November 2018
Letter from NHS confirming GP registration - Him
EE Phone Bill - Me

March 2019
Bank statement - Joint

July 2018
EE Phone Bill - Me
Letter from optician for eye test - Him

November 2019
We will include our joint bank statement

I'm feeling much better about this one now!

That looks much better!  You don't happen to have something for each of you for February 2019, do you?  If so, you could take out November 2018 and March 2019, and have six seven items, rather than eight.
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!

I've booked my appointment to submit my biometrics for my FLR(M) extension for 4 November.

I'm not too worried about the mandatory documents, as they give you the checklist for your application, but on the off chance I've missed something for the items of correspondence, would someone take a look at the below?
At least if I'm missing something I can print off a copy well in advance.

I entered the UK on 1 June 2017 and my BRP expires on 17 February 2020, so I've come up with the following for correspondence:

June 2017 - September 2017
Tenancy agreement (June)- due to how we had to sign the document, we'll have to provide two copies with our signatures on each, but both of our names are on the agreement

October 2017 - January 2018
HRMC tax code letter (November) - Me
Bank statement (January) - Him

February 2018 - May 2018
Tenancy agreement (May) - Joint

June 2018 - September 2018
Bank statement (September) - Him
Will provide my bank statement for the same month

October 2018 - January 2019
Bank statement (January) - Him
Will provide my bank statement for the same month

February 2019 - May 2019
Council tax letter - joint

June 2019 - October 2019
Bank statement (October) - Him
Will provide my bank statement for the same month

Thank you!!

For the correspondence, they need to be evenly spaced (1 document in each name every 4 months) and if you are using individually addressed items, they need to be from the same month to show you were both in the house at the same time.

You also only need to cover the last 2 years: November 2017 to November 2019 (though the 6th document will be dated July 2019) and you need at least 3 different official sources.

So, you want documents from the following months:

November 2017
March 2018
July 2018
November 2018
March 2019
July 2019

At the moment, you have:

November 2017
1. You: HMRC letter
1. Him:  ?

March 2018
2. You: ?
2. Him: ?

July 2018
3. You: ?
3. Him: ?

November 2018
4. You: ?
4. Him: ?

March 2019
5. Joint: Council tax letter? - if it's from March, that is

July 2019
6. You: ?
6. Him: ?

If you use the HMRC letter and council tax letter, that's 2 sources, so you could always use bank statements from each of the other months to make up the rest of the documents, assuming you have paper bank statements for each of you that were mailed to your house.

Thanks for the feedback. Luckily the council tax letter is from March. It’s a shame that the tenancy agreements are out due to the timings.

We don’t have statements mailed to our house but are able to print them off. I’m assuming that’s okay, as the website stated that the documents don’t have to be originals and can be copies.

You can always adjust your months if that helps, but everything still needs to be 4 months apart, so that would rule out the council tax letters.

I.e,
Dec 2017
Apr 2018
Aug 2018
Dec 2018
Apr 2019
Aug 2019

The documents must have been physically mailed to your house on the dates printed on them - they can’t be printed from online banking because you could have been living somewhere else when they were issued.

What they mean by originals vs. copies is that you can make a copy of the original and send that, so you still have the original in your possession in case they ask to see it.

Also, you don’t send any documents anymore, you scan and upload the originals (or pay Sopra Steria to scan them for you).

We recommend that you turn off paperless for EVERYTHING as soon as you arrive in the UK, so that you don’t have the issue of not having enough original mailed documents when you apply for the next visa. So, I would turn off paperless ASAP in preparation for your ILR in 2.5 years.

What about other types of mail?

Do you have any of the following mail you could use:
- water bills
- electricity bills
- phone bills
- credit card bills
- TV licence
- payslips with your address on them
- letters from other government bodies

Afraid changing the dates doesn't make too much of a difference.
It's just so strange as the statements do have actual dates on them - I guess we're just not seeing the difference between the paper mailed statements we have and the ones that we've printed off. They look exactly the same.
