He said what????
« on: August 21, 2019, 06:55:29 PM »
He wants to buy Greenland? And he's cancelling a state visit to Denmark because they said it wasn't for sale?????

Ok, so what exactly is the process for having a sitting president's mental status evaluated?

Ok, so what exactly is the process for having a sitting president's mental status evaluated?

Quote from: 25th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America
Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.

Oy. We're screwed.

Don't worry. Yesterday in an interview he raised his head to the sky, opened his hands and said that he was the "chosen one". Can't go wrong with the "chosen one" in charge.

He also has the nuke codes and control of one of the largest military forces on the planet.

Well, I'll sleep well tonight.  8)

I genuinely believe the “chosen one “ thing was a bad joke or figure of speech.

The campaign speech he gave the other day threatening that the economy would tank if we didn’t vote for him and how we all had to vote for him no matter what was borderline crazy.  Barely made the news but it was pure batshit crazy.

The bit from him about Jewish persons who voted for Democrats as being "disloyal".... that kinda was a screaming red flag right there.

Seriously, it's getting nuts. And the Nuts floating around (read that "neer-do-wells who want to blame their lack of success in life on someone else") are going to just use whatever comes out of that man's mouth to justify whatever even more Nutzo actions they decide to do.

The Daughter now and then talks about wanting to go "home."  I have absolutely no desire to go there. Except to visit to get Mexican food, medications, household supplies, and to say "hi" to a few people. But not for more than 10 days. It's just too batsh** crazy there.

Quote
If Donald Trump were in virtually any other position of responsibility, action would already be under way to remove him from that role. The board at a public company would have replaced him outright or arranged a discreet shift out of power. (Of course, he would never have gotten this far in a large public corporation.) The chain-of-command in the Navy or at an airline or in the hospital would at least call a time-out, and check his fitness, before putting him back on the bridge, or in the cockpit, or in the operating room. (Of course, he would never have gotten this far as a military officer, or a pilot, or a doctor.)

There are two exceptions. One is a purely family-run business, like the firm in which Trump spent his entire previous career. And the other is the U.S. presidency, where he will remain, despite more and more-manifest Queeg-like  unfitness, as long as the GOP Senate stands with him.

Yes, it is good to remember that he only remains in power because the GOP keeps him there.

It is especially good to remember this at election time.  We don't just vote for the White House roles.  We control who checks and balances the White House.

And now he wants to know why we don't just nuke hurricanes.
Seriously?

My husband and I did actually stop reading the news a couple of months ago.  It still leaks in a bit because I didn't completely quit Facebook, and sometimes when the pound-dollar chart does something unexpected, I look to see if anything serious occurred.  But, mostly, we've shut it all out.  As my husband said, there's no point keeping up with it, since there's absolutely nothing we can do to change/stop anything.

They’ve won then.  All it takes for horrible things to happen is for good people to do nothing.

I absolutely disagree that there’s nothing you can do to change the news.  I made it so Trump can’t come to London and show his face to cheering crowds like Obama.  Ditto for thousands of other acts by the majority of reasonable people on this planet. As long as everyone never accepts Trumpism as normal, they will eventually lose.

This is why I'm afraid honestly. Everytime I've said something is terrifying me, I've been told "there's nothing we can do so why worry until you have something to worry about". The holocaust happened because good people couldn't do enough to stop it. What's happening in the US, Brazil, and potentially here with Johnson in charge is not OK but I feel pretty powerless as a member of the part of the society they'd love to see dead.
