Just found this...

British Market Looks Sweet to Krispy Kreme
November 18, 2002

LONDON - There is a hole in Britain's diet and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is planning to fill it.

The company announced that it plans to start franchising stores in Britain, reports the New York Times.

Krispy Kreme will partner with Chesire & Kent Ltd., a company founded in part by Dick Clark, and former Krispy Kreme executive Donald Henshall on the deal, which calls for 25 Krispy Kreme stores to open in Britain over the next five years.

The doughnut maker will retain a 34 percent stake in the franchising partnership. Krispy Kreme announced earlier this year that it will open stores in Australia in 2003 and then in New Zealand.

That's an interesting tidbit of information!
I didn't know Dick Clark was ill...did he do the Times Square thing last week? I didn't see it, so am assuming he didn't.

No, he didn't.

Regis Philbin filled in for Dick Clark on New Year's Eve. Dick Clark is recovering from a stroke he had a few years ago. I guess the perpetually young face can't stop the body from breaking down. It's odd that he owns the UK franchise for KK--go figure...

(For those who don't know, Dick Clark used to host a popular TV show called "American Bandstand," where the latest hits were played and people danced. He also has hosted the New Year's Eve celebrations in Times Square for years, as well as an American gameshow called "The $20,000 Pyramid," which later became "The $100,000 Pyramid"--a great show, as far as gameshows go. He's noted for his everlasting youthful looks--kind of like Cliff Richard--although he's easily in his late 60s.)

Wow, that just sounded like an obituary write-up.

Oops. DC had a stroke a few weeks ago, not a few years.

A little plastic surgery could take care of that right quick ;)
