I grew up on Winchell's, but they are few and far between (if they even exist anymore?). Local shops back home get my vote. Donuts over here are a pale imitation.

yyup!! LOVED Winchell's.. what happened to them??  yes  I'd take a  local  shop anyday.. it's funny but where my parents live  it is the oddest thing that you can have  a chinese take out and in the same  shop have a  doughnut shop!!   :D :D

I still go abit  further where they have just coffee and doughnuts..don't want the smell of Broccoli beef to interfere with my sweets ..

had a trip to london yesterday and when arriving to euston station for our return i couldnt believe my eyes!!!!  KRISPY KREMES HOLY SH*T!!!  its one of the those mini shops just outside next to the starbucks stand.   too bad we had just eaten subway before spotting it or we would have got a dozen!

There  is also a Krispy Kreme  shop in the Birmingham  bullring next to  the   sushi bar..
