Taking baby to the states

Hello all
My husband and I are taking our then 10 month old to the states for Christmas. I’m confused about what passport is used when as he is dual. And to I need an ESTA for him? I’m assuming not as he has his American passport... any tips for the legality of it all? Don’t want to get caught unaware. Thanks

No ESTA as he is a USC. Leave the UK, enter the US and leave the US on the US passport. Enter the UK on UK passport.
