Hey just wondering I dont need my job so if I stop working and next year we do my tax return for this year 2019 would I have to file in 2021 for 2020 if i dont work in the year 2020? Or would I still have to file?

Probably not if your income is below the threshold but I'm not a tax expert.

For 2019, all taxpayers are eligible to claim a standard deduction, if not the dependent of another taxpayer. The standard tax deduction amounts are fixed by the government before the tax filing season and generally increase for inflation each year.

Your income that is equal to or less than the standard deduction is not taxable, the IRS doesn't require you to file a return in years your income doesn't exceed that sum. When determining whether you need to file a return, you don't include tax-exempt income. In 2019 for example, if you are under age 65 and single, you must file a tax return if you earn $12,200 or more, which is the 2019 standard deduction for a single taxpayer.

Yea I have read about the income if its less than that you dont need to file taxes but I was advised from a tax person online to file married but seperately and if I make more than $5 in a year I need to file a return. Sorry for all the questions this is all so frusturating I'm not in the US anymore and make like no money I dont understand why I need to file with them it just seems ridiculous. We have gone onto H&R Block cause they have an overseas bit so we are waiting for someone to get back to us within a week n a bit to continue our return and help us file but its gonna cost between $250-$450

For simple returns in future you can use the IRS free online filing, but you have missed the chance this year by a few days.

Can I still use Free File?
Yes, you can! If you filed for an extension or you still need to e-file your 2018 federal return, you can use Free File to prepare and e-file your return for free.

IRS Free File is still available through October 15 at midnight ET to prepare and file returns electronically.
