UK Citizenship (how long w/o passport)

Hi,

I've done some searching but don't see any current info. I have been a resident for nearly 6 years (through my spouse) and want to apply for naturalisation. I see that it takes up to 6 months for a decision to be made!?

Does this mean that I must be without my US passport for 6 months? What if I want to travel? We have plans to go to the US for Thanksgiving, France in February, and then probably a summer holiday somewhere. Ideally I can't be without my US passport for 6 months?

I know that I wasn't able to apply for any sort of expedited service for my residence permit because I have a DUI charge from 2003 in the US. Is that the case with Naturalisation as well?

RE travel, you dont submit your passport, just a photo of your passport so you can travel with no issue. For me, it also took about 2 months. It can take "up to" 6 months, but usually doesnt take that long

You couldnt travel while waiting for a VISA to be processed. Not a problem for citizenship application.
