Buying fabric for sewing - London?
« on: October 21, 2019, 06:09:24 PM »
I know I asked this a couple of years ago, but in case there are newbies here who might know:

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy fabric (for home sewing) in London? We are thinking about a trip down there later this year, with maybe an overnight in Durham or Newcastle to break up the travel. (So if there's a place in one of them?)  The Daughter does a lot of her own sewing and has had hell finding things like good quality cotton (only, not poly-cotton) fabric, cotton (only) thread, linen, etc., here.  Is there a "garment district" (as in LA or NYC) in London? Or some other area where fabric stores or, at least, crafting stores that might have fabric?

It's not the garment district, but your best best is Goldhawk Road.  There are around 15-20 fabric shops along there and they all tend stock something different.  I'm sure Yelp or some such has reviews of the area.  Good luck!
