Back from Texas now, and happy to report that the tinned Grands biscuits in the cool bag with an ice pack idea did work... they were still very cold when i unpacked, so i just bunged them into the fridge.

Not so happy to report, though, that upon popping the tin and baking the biscuits, I have discovered that i no longer like them.  They're awful!  :(

I wonder if they have changed, or you have!  ;)

Welcome home!  :)

I have been patiently waiting to read about your Pillsbury dough saga.

*spoken in grandma mode* Back in the day, 1997, I begged my best friend to bring me some of the crescent dough and cinnamon buns because I wanted to make my husband my favorite ham & broccoli ring that I loved so much in Texas and cinnamon rolls because cinnamon isn’t exactly a preferred flavor in the UK and I missed them so. I really wanted to make them for my new English friends, etc...

The guy brought me A CASE EACH of the doughs and paid duty and did God knows what to get them over. I happily made my ring thing and the cinnamon rolls. Like you, I realized I didn’t actually like them either. I thought that maybe they had gone off but my American buddy said they tasted exactly how they are supposed to taste. Oh no

Two days later, we lost power in our house throughout the day. The next door neighbor said they heard loud popping sounds in our house. They got warm, popped open and dough poured out of the fridge... We had carpet in the kitchen and it was everywhere. I’ve never had one of those crescent roll/ cinnamon things in 22 years.

Ugh.

Albatross, That sucks, and great story Larissa!

What were the biscuits like?  Did they have bits of lard in them?  What was wierd about them?  Sweetener?

Welcome home!  :)

Thank you!  A lot of my tastes have changed, but i didn't imagine this being one of them.  :(

The texture just wasn't the way i remembered the biscuits to be. The dug's enjoying them though!

I also bought a box of Jiffy biscuit mix, so I'm hoping that will be better.

Things I totally agree with you on:
Grits!  Always bring some back
Jiffy biscuit mix , biscuit and cornbread is worth it

Things that you can find here:
hand sanitizer
picks for teeth
body lotion
taco seasoning
Dryer sheets (I thought you were punk rock)
Butterfinger
corn tortillas

Things that should not be sold anywhere:
Dehydrated refried beans (BTW, got some wahaca refreied beans in a pouch the other daym they were tasty)
Velveeta (Tami has a recipe, just reading it is enough to make me sick)
cotton candy flavoured chapstick

Aye, but... (!!!)  ;)  ;D
hand sanitiser -- you can't get all the amazing scents here that you get in B&BW
picks for teeth -- it's difficult and expensive to find the Glide picks, and Glide is the only floss that doesn't shred in my freakish teeth
body lotion -- it's this particular scent i wanted, and I've only ever seen it on QVC at almost twice the price i paid in the US
taco seasoning - Old El Paso doesn't cut it for me, and getting a few packs in the US keeps me from having to mix my own
dryer sheets --  i have bought the Waitrose ones in the past, but the scent doesn't last.  Gain sheets smell amazing and it lasts ages
Butterfinger -- it wasnt on my list; just an impulse buy, but i dont recall ever seeing them here.
corn tortillas -- the only place i can get proper corn tortillas (ie not a mixture of corn & flour) is Lupe Pintos, which isnt always convenient, and they only last a couple of days before going mouldy.  These have a preservative, i guess, as they have a sell-by date of 16/12.  Whatever i dont eat by then will go into the freezer.

Scent is important to me!

So there.   ;) ;) ;)

There is NOTHING comparable to the Crest Glide picks.  My dentist in the UK (British) imports them and sells them at a reasonable price.  They last ages.  Good buy!

I'm so afraid of this being a thing...  :(  I'm sorry you were so disappointed.  You went to such lengths to get them here.

Good job!  ;D

The ones at Taco Bell were dehydrated.  They came in pre-portioned bags, and we poured them into a pan, added 2 liters of boiling water and let them sit for at least 10 minutes.  Stir, and enjoy.  I liked the Taco Bell ones.  Especially with a bit of red (enchilada) sauce and some shredded cheddar on top.  Pintos and cheese!
