British passport post citizenship approval
« on: December 02, 2019, 12:55:48 PM »
Hi, all -
I'm delighted to report that I received my approval letter for citizenship as of this morning, following my August application. (Huzzah -- it just took me 10 years to do it!) I didn't realise that we could apply for the passport at the same time as citizenship. How I missed that, I dunno...  ::)

As I'll be travelling to the US for Christmas, I'll likely put off my ceremony until January. After the ceremony / receipt of certificate, I'll need to send in my BRP to be destroyed.  May I assume that the passport application is completely separate to this, and will just require my certificate and US passport? It looks like a simple online form, £75.50, and submitting the supporting documents (US passport, certificate, and referee declaration)..?

On another note, there's a slight typo under "certificate details" of the approval letter. Whereas my "full name" is correctly written, my "name at birth" (directly underneath) has one incorrect letter within my middle name. (My name in the addressed field is correct, too.) I'll wait and see what the certificate says, but I guess if incorrect, I'd need to do a change form -- and further wait upon its return for the passport application? Argh.  :-\\\\

You didn’t miss anything!  That service was only offered for a short period of time (applying for the passport at the time of applying for citizenship).

Call your local council and see if they can verify the name on the certificate (as they should have all the paperwork for your ceremony).  They may be able to reassure you it’s fine or help you get it corrected prior to your ceremony.

Thank you so much, KF! Whew -- glad to see I wasn't overlooking the passport thing! (I had hoped to be an expert on these applications by now...haha)
Your help has been invaluable to me throughout this process -- from initial Tier 1 General through citizenship! Thank you! :)
