Spousal visa renewal apply time
« on: December 31, 2019, 03:42:17 PM »
Hi
I arrived in the UK 18-oct-2017
My visa expires 02-07-2020

I read in one thread that you should allow the most time for your ILR so I was wondering when I should apply for my spousal extension

Also if we are using our savings for the financial part is it only six months worth that we need to show

Thanks once again for all your help !

If you arrived 18th October 2017, then you will reach 30 months in the UK on 18th April 2020.

- The earliest you can apply for FLR(M) is 28 days before this date, which would be 21st March 2020.
- The latest you can apply is the expiry date of your visa, so 2nd July 2020.

In terms of the application date, 'applying' means submitting the online application, so you can submit the online application any time between 21st March and 2nd July. It can takes several weeks to get an appointment for biometrics (unless you pay extra for a certain day/time) and standard processing times once you have given biometrics are about 8 weeks, so unless you will be paying £800 for a premium appointment for a 24-hour decision, it won't really make much difference if you apply earlier rather than later, because your FLR(M) won't start until the visa has been issued, which could be 2-3 months after you submitted the online application.

If you do decide to apply later, it won't matter if your visa expires before the FLR(M) is issued - your current visa will simply be extended while the new application is processing. The important thing is that you have submitted the online application before the expiry date.

Yes, you need to show 6 full months of bank statements (which may mean including 7 months to cover every single day of the 6 months) and the balance in the account cannot have fallen below £62,500 for even 1 day during the 6 months.
