I am the UK husband of a USA wife. She is yet to arrive (first visa app rejected) but I hope and anticipate that she will be here soon.
This question actually counts for both of us as, although I am a UK citizen, I have been living in the US for the last 6 years (I am also a US citizen).
I am finding that with my absence, I am being treated like a fresh immigrant for the purposes of loans, insurances, etc. I am looking at buying a pair of cheap cash cars and I'd like third party insurance on those but without a no claims bonus I'm looking at £600/year per car even for the most basic third party only cover.
I have heard tales of expats calling their old USA insurers who will provide evidence of no claims to prospective UK insurers. Has anyone done this successfully? I was insured with GEICO in the US and I'm not precious about who insures me here; I just want cheap!
