So, they've just carted Boris off to hospital. 10 days after symptoms, that's not a good sign.

So who's in charge of the government now?

Article I read says he still is and this is just precautionary. If he has pneumonia he'll need treatment, but may not need to give up control.

It would be Dominic Raab but they are saying that we're not at that stage yet.

Hmmm. So while in hospital he is not considered incapacitated?

Ok then, so he's in "for tests" - I take that to be a lung x-ray or cat scan. Or possibly some bloodwork.  Ten days is a long time for him to have had a fever.

I've been curious what they do for those who end up with that gnarly pneumonia. If it's viral pneumonia, antibiotics are useless. Have they got something else these days for viral pneumonia? Other than extra 02?  (I had it 30 years ago and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I was wiped out for weeks. Spent a lot of time laying in the sun on a deck chair, resting. Because I could do almost nothing else.)

They are treating with a variety of things... Antibiotics because bacterial pneumonia can happen concurrently, various breathing treatments (both medicine and breathing exercises), oxygen, mucolytics, and ventilation if needed in the most serious cases. And there are the trials of quite a few meds, including plasma from people who have recovered. That's just what I know from the friends battling it here.

I'm still extremely disappointed with the way Sainsbury's and all of the grocery stores managed this, but because I was able to check the boxes on the Gov online form for multiple conditions that would make me extremely vulnerable to Covid-19 I now have access for grocery delivery. There is tons of availability once you get permission to book. Sainsbury's really needs to scale up their customer service team and have a Web chat or Internet form because there are still so many who need access and don't have it (because blind and mobility challenged people weren't covered by the "vulnerable" list, and not all of them can use phones). *sigh* But that's a huge stress lifted for the next couple months so we can hunker down and hopefully not end up hospitalised. Once this is over I am going to change where we shop.

Calderwood "resigns".

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-52177171

"Scotland's chief medical officer has resigned after making two trips to her second home during the coronavirus lockdown.

Dr Catherine Calderwood had apologised for her actions, and initially said she planned to continue in the role."

"The chief medical officer had fronted TV and radio adverts urging the public to stay at home to save lives and protect the NHS, and took part in daily televised media briefings alongside Ms Sturgeon. "

I think everyone, except the First Minister, thought she should have resigned immediately. Can’t believe she actually thought she could simply give a groveling apology and continue in her job. I can’t imagine the hate mail she got.

I wish him a swift recovery, but I wouldn't say he has been amazing. They were very slow to react, ordered millions of ineffective tests before confirming their accuracy, haven't ordered enough PPE for front line staff, and didn't order ventilators with the rest of the EU. There's more, but that's at the front of my mind.

Not perfect by any means, but I think he’s done a better job than Trump.

Very, very sorry to hear this. :\\\'(  Wishing him a full and speedy recovery. If that doesn't happen, things are going to be so much worse than they already are.
