I don't know what that one is.  I'm going to have to Google.

Oh brother. I can see how this is going to appeal to so many. I'm going to have to ignore a lot.

How it's affecting me? Well, my husband is in the UK army, and has been in the Middle East since early December. I left to go back to Ohio to be with my family around the same time, as he wasn't in the UK anyways and I didn't want to be alone. He was supposed to come home for a 2 week leave in April, as was I. Since the virus hit, the army canceled his leave, and told him that he had to work straight through until June. With his change in plans and the virus situation, I decided to stay put in Ohio. I'm going back to the UK next month. He should be back around mid-June.

On top of my husband being deployed and the worry with that, my ILR is due at the end of July. Who knows what the backlog will be like, if they'll grant visa extensions, if the visa services will even be open at all, etc. I have a lot of concerns. It's literally the worst possible time for a visa to be due.

In one of my jobs (both are remote), I'm an independent contractor for a Chinese-American company. Business has slowed WAY down since the virus hit. It's the slowest it's been since I started there 2 years ago. Thank God business is good at my other job (where I'm an employee, not IC).

It's disheartening to see so many people angry with each other right now. Lockdown crew screaming at the open up crew, the open up crew badmouthing the lockdown crew. I've seen it in my own family. I have my own opinions on all this, and I'm def on the side of opening up- but cautiously!

You just need to apply by the end of your visa and then do you Sopra Steria Appointment when you schedule it. As you'll have applied you are legally in the country with all of your usual rights until a decision is made. 😁

Real issue is the Life in the UK Test. Not sure how that's going to be handled...
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I asked my MP to push the home office to release guidance on that. Who knows if it will happen, but the longer this goes on the more people are impacted with expiring visas. :(

I read that the test centers for Life in the UK test are opening May 11th. Not sure if that's up to date though? I'm studying for it now anyways.

The Home Office should, and, as I imagine, will HAVE to make more accommodations based on the pandemic circumstances. Period.

Worst case scenario (not anticipating it): For whatever reason, I couldn't apply for the Life in the UK test in time... would I just apply for a second spousal visa instead of ILR? I currently have a 5 year spousal visa, as my husband's in the military (applied from the US). With this military path, FLR is bypassed. It's a 5 year spouse visa, then ILR.

I think you would still apply for ILR, but explain you were unable to take the Life in the UK test because the centres were closed. I assume they will have measures in place for people in that situation... like, maybe they will put the application on hold until you can take it and then process it once they have your pass certificate.

If they won't do that, I believe they will just issue you with FLR(M) instead (and I think they refund the difference in the visa cost? You shouldn't have to pay the IHS for the FLR(M), because your husband is in the forces).

I don't envy you being in the US right now where it seems that the crisis has totally turned political.  The UK sucks right now for a lot of reasons, but at least people are mostly on the same page about the virus and how to deal with it.  I don't think I could handle being in the US right now.

I couldn’t agree more.  Did you watch Queenie’s speech last night and the “We will be together again”. I don’t think I’ve ever been so proud to be British.

Karlee, the UK is very much in lockdown with MUCH stricter guidelines than the USA.  They are announcing how we will come out of lockdown tomorrow, but it is expected to be very long and very slow.  I have left my home once since March 20th and I did not recognise this world.  Try to prepare mentally as I suspect reacclimatising to the UK could be challenging.

I know  :-\\\\ Things are actually improving here (at least where I am). Businesses opening, some HOPE again. Ohio was one of the first states to issue a stay at home order back in mid March.

I'm looking forward to seeing my husband. I'm not looking forward to going back to the UK in these times. I know I have a visa due and everything, but a part of me questions if it's even a wise idea to travel back to the UK now.... If it weren't for the visa, I would probably stay put and wait a little longer to travel. I'm really torn about this, and I don't feel comfortable.

Scotland will be in lockdown for another 3 weeks. Based on what I’ve seen with people no longer adhering to guidelines, it could get extended after that. Our beach was covered a few days ago and none were locals. I don’t know what it will take for people to get it. Stay home   ::)
