I agree with those guys above.  I think I'm not far from you and I've got a car, so if you need anything just shout.

NHS people are great, nobody doubts that, but I think Tesco people deserve a lot of credit right now.  I bet they are living a hellish life right now.

They absolutely are.  But Tesco as a corporation has been acting dirty for some time.  They are screwing anyone and everyone whereever they can.  I just hope they are being kind to their staff right now.  They are not treating business partners well (my companies biggest client).

By the way, has anybody heard from anybody who is actually helping any isolated people?  I see tons of facebook and what's app groups and random posts of people offering to help, but it seems like there are more helpers than elderly at the moment.  I hate Facebook and Whatsapp with a burning passion so I am not signing up for that, but has anyone else?

You are right, Tesco Corp deserve everything they get.  I'm seeing a lot of people complaining about the stores and complaining that the prices are going up.
And the airlines can kiss my ass!  They've been making money hand over fist by ripping me off for years, the government had better not give them a penny.  Let them go out of business, we'll get new airlines soon enough.

I have friends in real life who are isolating and know they can call me for anything.  I am going to let my neighbors know that we have our standard recurring online delivery on Saturday morning and if they want me to try to add anything to it, to let me know.  I know it's hard to get slots right now and having a recurring slot is a bit of gold dust.  There are only 5 homes in my cul de sac so will do what I can.  And my garage is full of booze.... so there's always that!  ;D

My next door app is full of people complaining that they tried to go to Curry's to buy a freezer and they are all sold out.  Apparently all the greedy food hoarders have bought the freezers first before the perfectly innocent people complaining could buy one.  No self awareness at all!

Tesco sent an email:

"From Thursday 19 March we will start to implement the following changes:

To ensure more people have access to everyday essentials, we are introducing a storewide restriction of only 3 items per customer on every product line, and removing multi-buy promotions.
In order to allow Tesco colleagues to focus on stocking shelves, helping to provide the essential groceries you are looking for and to avoid waste, we will close all meat, fish, deli counters and salad bars.
To be able to ensure our stores are clean, that we can replenish stock, and allow our colleagues to rest, we will change our trading hours with all stores closing at 10pm.
To ensure we are doing everything possible to reduce the risk of infection for both our customers and colleagues, we will be introducing some distancing measures at the checkout and, to make it swifter, invite customers who can, to pay by card.
To help free up slots for the more vulnerable, such as our elderly customers and those who are self-isolating, we are encouraging customers who shop online or choose Click+Collect for their grocery home shopping, to prioritise shopping in-store where possible.
To ensure our more vulnerable and elderly customers can shop in-store, we will prioritise one hour every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning between 9-10am (except in our Express stores) and ask that you respect this.

Tesco store colleagues can't work from home and a good number of them will need to respond to personal or family challenges connected with dealing with COVID-19. So we would please ask that you understand the challenging environment in which we are all working. If you do go in-store and want to say thank you, then I'm sure they'd appreciate it.

So, if you could help us by limiting demand of essential items and allowing us to focus on the core needs of our customers – we are confident that we can continue to feed the nation. We are delivering food daily to our stores, but this is a very challenging time and we will only get through this if we work together."

Aquila, you truly are a hero in all of this.  And putting yourself behind others is truly humbling.  At a time when for most people it is, "Me me me,"  you are saying, "I can help and I will help."  You are very inspiring.

Please keep us updated if YOU need anything.  The least we can do is post a few things to help during this time.  Don't be afraid to ask!

Definitely let us know. The Post Office is still open, and, for me, within walking distance.  Please do everything possible to take care of yourself.

Nope.

I think there are few elderly people left in the building,  now. I tried to check on a nice woman who has accepted packages for me in the past, prior to venturing out the other day to see if she might need anything. But got no answer and her blinds are down (so I think she's gone away.)

We are going into lockdown, other than one final walk out tomorrow to try to find more paramenacol (ok, I can't spell it. Tylenol!) I was only able to find about three-days' worth the other day, and I'm not comfortable with that.  We are both starting to have wicked allergies (which antihistamines do put a dent in, so we are comfortable that it's all the blooming flowers), but we are also treating ourselves as if we are carriers and trying very hard to avoid being near others and will be wearing masks. I'll be trying her door one last time to see if we can bring her anything back.

I have seen nothing about anyone offering (other than the people on this board) to help anyone, but I don't use Facebook or much in the way of online technology. I have seen a good number of elderly people walking down the road on the way to the shops, and then coming back with their groceries, even in the rain. I am seriously worried about them.

Upstairs has sickness in the house, and a teenage male in that house spends a lot of time smoking out in front of the building and chatting up his friends who arrive from elsewhere and then leave. I'm pretty sure they are taking more with them than the latest gossip.  :(

Wales and Scotland closing schools by Friday, will affect a lot of people. A decision for schools in England, is "imminent".

Schools in England to close this Friday, except for the children of essential workers e.g. NHS staff, police, delivery workers, social worker, those looking after the elderly, and for vunerable children e.g. children with social workers. Vouchers/meals to be given to children who would have been given a free school meal

NI also announced schools will close.

Yes! My sister and i were talking yesteday and saying all those in retail, especially in the grocery stores, deserve so mich more credit than they get! Im sure there are so many people that are taking out their fears, angers, and axieties on those poor staff members while they are still ahowing up and putting themselves at risk to do as much as they can for the general public. Store workers and NHS staff deseeve praise!

It's all over facebook and social media. Lovely to see so many people willing and able to do what they can fir neighbours and stranfees alike. It's all over my villages' Facebook page and they've created a separate, dedicated, spinoff page so not just hollow gestures.

I want to send thank you baskets to the retail workers and NHS staff right now honestly, if I could only order food.

So, I picked up everything needed to make GF bread and pasta etc on amazon except they didn't have any yeast. If anyone happens upon any type of gluten free yeast that isn't out of date while shopping I will transfer you the shipping funds! And eggs, those are an issue. Hoping they are in my ocado order from last week!

We are currently staying with my wife’s sister, helping her after she had open heart surgery, and she has had 2 leaflets pushed through her door from neighbors she doesn’t know offering to help with anything from food and prescription pickups to dog walking. They don’t know she is recovering from the surgery, the pre-printed form is for elderly folks trapped with the virus measures. I guess the village/neighborhood association  must have a list of all the over 65s and volunteers are stepping up to help.

Nice.

We've got those doing the rounds on our facebook page :) basically, print off the "form", fill it out, and give them to your neighbours. It's nice to see kindness still exists
