The NHS staff is doing very well coping with non-Covid emergencies. Please don't put off your emergency out of fear.
I hope your husband recovers quickly! Friends with appendicitis had similar experiences but they'd put off going in so they are going to have a longer recovery.
I have to say, the NHS has been good even for Covid related emergencies too, although they are skipping some diagnostics and just treating based on symptoms and blood test results. One of the things covid does is cause blood clots, and my friend who is still recovering from covid pneumonia managed to get one in her arm. She spoke to her GP on the phone who thought it was just her being nervous and an MSK issue, but she sent me the photo of it and described how it felt and I told her at the very least she needed to call 111 for an opinion. Paramedics came, knew it was a clot so took her straight in. She got meds and was sent back home since they didn't want to put her on the covid or non-covid wards 30 days into her recovery.
I just wish there was a bit more care for non covid issues. I broke my foot in Feb, got blown off by urgent care (refusing to xray), walked on it for 2 weeks while it just got worse, GP sent for xrays and a month after the injury I finally saw the fracture clinic. It's not healing the way it should and they won't do any follow up xrays while on lock down.
