It’s not public funds. Because hmrc aren’t paying you directly. It’s to encourage employers to retain workers and has nothing to with you, other than your employment status.

I should be covered then hopefully. She said we were not to report in to work for the foreseeable future and she was seeing about the scheme.

We are a small staff of 4 dental nurses, a hygienist, 3 part time dentists and a practice manager.

Just have to wait and see I guess.

I thought I should update the hmrc covid helpline number as there’s a new one from today (in case anyone stumbles across this thread and the old number): 0800 024 1222. Open 8-4 mon-fri.

The government announced a program yesterday for self-employed people similar to the one for employed people.

I've read that the self employed pay will be based on 2018 - 2019 tax year. I guess that leaves out those who recently gone the self employed route during the current tax year of 2019 - 2020... *gulp*

If you haven’t done a self assessment, what would they base how much to give you?

Surely if you are self employed, the government scheme would be considered "public funds" ? I wish there would be some definite clarification on this. My husband and I are both self employed, but I wouldn't want to risk my immigration status by applying for public funds.

Hm good point. Too early to tell. The alternative the this scheme for the self employed who don’t qualify is to claim universal credit, which most definitely IS a public fund.

It’s so new, they haven’t had time to sort that stuff yet. It’s a bit of a nightmare for project managers at hmrc, I’d imagine!!
