Electronic filing
« on: April 05, 2020, 09:37:10 AM »
For the past 5 years I have been using Tax Act to file my taxes, and I have always had to send the return in by post, as it didn't give me the option to e-file. Is there a cheap way to e-file, or is this even possible?
Can anyone recommend a different software for expats that doesn't cost the moon? I don't have much income, so pay no US taxes, and I don't want to pay £150 to file my taxes. Even Tax act is getting expensive now.

Many thanks

Have you tried using the free fillable efile forms on the IRS website?  Might work for you particularly since you have your returns from previous years to work from as a template

Maybe Credit Karma would work for you. I've not tried it, but they say it's 100% free.
Doesn't support 1116/2555 though.

This is my first year in the UK.  I'm using OLT which I used for the last several years in the US.  A Federal return is free.  I'm not able to file electronically though because my UK spouse doesn't have a Social Security or Tax ID number.  Their website is OLT.com
