Today I made a loaf and timed it so it was ready just at lunchtime.  We made a big batch of bacon and made BLT's.  Yum.

That sounds awesome!  Now I'm sad that we don't have bacon and I used the last of our tomatoes at breakfast.

It is always sad to run out of tomatoes... they just make so many things better.  :-\\\\

Think I might have to have another go at growing them!  :)

I need seeds!  I have soil and compost and a few pots for starting them in... but I need seeds.  I wonder if my neighbour saves seeds and can spare some.

Sorry to be so boring, but maybe JFKimberley will be happy to read it:
Went to Tesco last night and spent 3 hours trying to do a humongous weekly shop by myself.  Didn't help that they were out of almost everything.  An employee told me they were expecting a delivery of flour overnight.
Went back at 7:45 this morning to stand in line for the 8 am opening and the parking lot was almost full.  After waiting at 30 minutes in line, I got in and got most things they didn't have last night.  2kg bag of strong flour, £2.  2kg bag of plain flour 60p (?!)

The good news is that my son is having some kind of garden camping event this weekend for Scouts.  We are going to cook hot dogs on the BBQ and do smores.  I bought chocolate, biscuits and marshmallows

The other good news is that it is Ramadan so I bought a HUUUUGE can of mango pulp for way cheap and a bunch of fruit to make smoothies.  Today might be smoothiegeddon

I'm impressed that you would do back-to-back shops!  And it paid dividends!  That plain flour is about a quarter as much as I paid (per kg) for my flour!  How many bags did you buy?  2kg would make 5 or 6 loaves, if I didn't use it for anything else.

Today's bread is all plain flour because the bulk stuff is still in the garden shed.  But the structure and flavour are good, so I'm happy.  Breakfast is commencing.

Correction, it's only 1.5 kg for 60p.  I'm surprised the bread flour was £2 for 1.5 kg.  That's almost 3 times as much for no real reason.  Today I will put feed the sourghdough and put it in the sun to get fired up and then make the brioche dough.  Tomorrow morning when I wake up I'll cook it and then make some scrambled eggs.  With chives.

You bread looks really nice, structure is perfectly acceptable.  I thought plain flour didn't have enough gluten to make decent bread.

I actually only bought one bag of bread flour and one bag of plain flour.  I could have bought more but they were running low and I didn't NEED more.

Higher protein flour is better, but if you give your dough enough time, you can achieve a good gluten structure with plain flour.  The best bread I've made was with an Italian flour my husband had ordered from an online Mediterranean shop.  I also had good results with some type 55 French flour from Shipton Mill.  But plain flour does make bread.  :)

I decided it was too late for seeds now (although I should order some for next year so that I am ready to go when the time is right) so have just ordered some plug plants instead.
I haven't used them before but I found this place which specialises in plug plants and looks really good.

I have ordered things... it hopefully isn't too late to start my tomatoes.  I've also ordered jalapenos, and fennel.  Essentials, clearly.  Yay!

Start looking for Tomorite now if you don't already have some. Hopefully your husband can pick some up locally. When I looked a week or so ago, the prices were reasonable for delivery but now they are rocketing up.
