Tired of saying goodbye
« on: January 05, 2005, 02:39:03 PM »
Just dropped my mom off at the airport, and feel sad and homesick.  This has got to be the worst part of expat life.  I don't mind the food, the driving, the lifestyle, the lack of hoagies and cheese-steaks.  I just hate missing my family.  I'm in the middle of a Reeces's fueled pity party.

Mindy I am right there with you though I have managed to stay away from the Reeses.. I go the new white chocolate kind.

I miss my mom and dad something terrible, but I just know that I am doing the right thing and I just tell them I love them as much as I can.

Big hugs from one missing family expat to another.

Big hugs Mindy.  It is the hardest part, and goodbyes amplify it.

Just remember how much your family loves you and that they know you are happy.  Knowing that you are happy makes them happy, despite the distance.

So eat away at those Reeses and another big hug to you.

Awwww...that is the tough part....leaving family.  For me this year it was a tough one - my first Xmas going back to the States and then having to leave, knowing I probably wouldn't be back until Summer '06 (unless I can save a LOT of £ and don't travel anywhere else...highely unlikely)...and my mom moved from the area right after Xmas across the country, so now when I go back "home", I won't get to see her...and probably won't be able to afford a ticket to both Penna and New Mexico...sigh.  Not sure when I'll actually next see my mom.

Just adding my hugs.  And remember, saying goodbye means you get to say hello again, too!   :D

My thoughts are with you Mindy and everyone else.  I am taking my mom to the airport on Saturday, I know I will be very sad.    I do miss my family so much.

Big hugs from me too Mindy.  I think we can pretty much all relate.  It's always hard for me to say goodbye to my family when I go to visit...but saying goodbye to my mom when she came here to see me was almost unbearable.  I cried my eyes out the whole day.  Even a big greasy Whopper for lunch couldn't make me feel better.  Sometimes you just gotta let yourself feel sad for a while and try to remember that the sadness will fade.

It is definitely the worst part of being an expat tho....no question about it.

Hope you're feeling better soon. :)

Oh so sorry :(
I remember feeling exactly like that after me and Frank had to leave each other after a visit. I never really had a close relationship with anyone in my family like that but envy those who do.
