Streamlined Filing Process
« on: April 25, 2020, 07:50:31 PM »
I'm hoping I can get some simple guidance here on the the Streamlined Filing process for my twin daughters. Up to and including 2017 they were included in my own return as dependants - full supported living at home post university (yes, boomerang kids!). In 2018 they had lower earnings (less than $4,000) as they started their own business - still supported financially but consequently I didn't claim them as dependants. They didn't file 2018 US returns - probably in error - and they certainly won't have tax to pay.

What's the easiest way for them to 'come clean' and file? Streamlined Filing process, but just for 2 years? - no FBAR filing surely?. I'm keen to get them sorted as they may even be eligible for stimulus checks!!

Thanks for advice here.

If they don't owe any tax just file the returns. No need for streamlined. If they had more than $10K (combined through all accounts) in accounts you will need to file FBars.
