If you have an iPhone, change to the U.S. Store and you'll be able to download the app. All you'll need is any zip code and can make up all the rest, it doesn't care. Payment card information would be 'NONE'.... I'd guess that the Android Play Store would have a similar method..... I do this all the time traveling U.K and Stateside.... BBC Sounds will not work in the U.S, so I simply change to U.K and presto, the app downloads/updates.
Thanks for this suggestion - it’s worked :-) should clear in a couple of days. Wow, just this morning I was totally expecting to have to open a Barclay’s account, now it’s sorted.

Thanks all :-)

Just a quick question, any of you that have received the paper check, is there an expiration date on the check, as in it needs to be deposited or cashed in a certain time frame?

I have a US bank account and am able to download the app, however it won't allow me to deposit any checks outside the US. Any options to deposit a US check on paypal or Zelle or some other online/App option that I can then transfer to my US bank account. I really don't want to mail my check back to the US. Worry about it getting lost or using the wrong postage as really would rather not go to a post office with the virus.

Looks like it's picking up your U.K ip. try a proxy, surfshark for example and choose a U.S. proxy. Remember to turn off 3G/4G.

I received my cheque and was able to pay it in to RBS (so I would imagine also Natwest). Although how long it will take to credit, what exchange rate they will use and what fees they will take remain unclear. I think the fee should be £10 but no idea what the rate will be or if there will be some other kind of load: https://www.supportcentre-rbs.co.uk/Searchable/913253192/How-much-do-you-charge-for-collection-and-negotiation.htm
My impression from this sort of transaction with other banks (years ago) is that I would expect to pay more in the range of £20-50 for the privilege so I will be very happy if it is only £10.
I know that Halifax and Nationwide don't support paying in foreign cheques anymore.

This was a good tip. However, it is only available on my US PayPal account (doesn't show up as an option on my UK PayPal account) and when it sees my phone location is not in the US, it does not work.

Is there anywhere besides a bank that accepts the cheque as the us government has listed my maiden name on my cheque so not sure Lloyds will pay it into my U.K. bank account which is in married name even if I bring proof of my marriage certificate

Has anyone been able to successfully cash a cheque when the chequer is in the maiden name and the bank account is in the married name? We tried at Barclays today and was turned away.

Like the above poster, we are having the same issue. I’m thinking the resolution is to try and open a bank account in the maiden name but I’m not sure which banks accept the stimulus check. Does anyone know?

If it helps at all, I used the mobile check deposit on my US account and then transferwise for any US checks I've received since moving. It gave a much better exchange rate and no fees beyond the small one for transferwise. Sorry I can't give more info on the Barclays deposit options.

Which US bank account did you use?

I haven't received my stimulus payment yet, but I had this exchange with a friend of a friend on Facebook regarding cashing/depositing a cheque over here ...
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!
8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)

-------

Most British cheques are "crossed" meaning that they can only be paid into the account of the person named as the payee.
American checks can be endorsed to someone else, so assuming you were Jane Doe and are now Smith, you could write on the back "Pay to the order of Jane Smith" and sign as Jane Doe. Then, you can sign it as Jane Smith, depositing it in your account here.

However: As the link below states, not all banks accept "specially endorsed" checks, so you'll have to see if your British bank will do this. Because the British standard procedure is different,  the first few employees will probably not know about this, so see if you can contact someone in FX department, maybe by online chat so you have it in writing.

Another option would be to "Pay to the order of (trusted friend or family member in USA)" and post it to them to deposit in his/her account.

Good luck.
