Frosty and cold this morning. Now bright skies and only 8C. Beautiful skies as I drove into the office this morning.

It's just started to get chilly here too, no frost though.
But really, it's been much warmer for much longer this autumn. My bird only left this week, a whole month later than he normally does. (miss him!)

Yeah, it has been strangely warmish until this week.  Only 3C when I climbed out of bed at 7 this morning.  Still heading back to 15C next week. Strange times!

Freakishly warm here. We did an over-nighter down to do the pilgrimage to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty (one of my bucket list before I can't travel targets that I never got to see as a kid) and it was shorts and t-shirt weather. 76F easily. Clear blue skies.

We just got home and it's in the 50s now, at night, but a cold front is due in and so I think we had the last good warm days we're going to see for a long time now.

Yesterday was sooooooo wet and dark and cold!  We had some localised flooding, but nothing too bad, thankfully!  I was worried as my husband was out and about on site visits, but it was all okay for him.

Well. At least I'm not in Buffalo. I believe it's closing on 7 feet of snow in the last few days, there, now.

But the morning commute is going to be in 9F, not counting any wind chill.

Ewww. Just ewwww!

I spent this afternoon putting up what is basically shrinkydinks on my windows - double sided tape all around the inside of the casing, then cutting specialized plastic sheeting to stick up to it. It sounded a lot easier than it was to do, but only because it was unwieldy. I put some desiccant packets in the airspace between the plastic and the glass in the hope that they'll tie up any moisture in there. And then took a blow dryer to the plastic, per the instructions, to basically kind of shrink it into place a bit.   I have double-pane windows, but one of the large panes has failed and so it's very much like having the fridge door open in my bedroom in the winter, with just the single-pane working.  It could be wishful thinking, but it does seem to be a little warmer in here now.

The humidity in this room is still kinda high - plants and the fish tank, at 58%. I had forgotten I'd shut the furnace vent off in this room so the heat is blowing into the bathroom and then out down the hall - I hate sleeping with forced air coming right down on where I'm sleeping (the vent is not direction-able). So now the vinyl vertical blinds have a sheen of moisture on them - they are cool enough from being by the window, I guess. So I've opened the hot air vent and when the furnace kicks on it should take care of the problem.  It's quite cold out today, but I've been baking all afternoon (for the rest of the week - bread, bacon/cheese& onion quiche, etc.) and the front of the house is quite comfy. The thermostat is out there.

It's still better than being colder and finding puddles on the windowsill every morning, I think.

Frosty, cold, har this morning. Had to break the ice in the chicken's water for the first time this season.  At least it's not 7 feet of snow like Buffalo!!

Yes, we had our first frost last night.
Bummer, I was starting to take the mild weather for granted!  ;D

Shrinky dinks go in the oven!  They they are smaller and harder and thicker.

Hah. Of all people who would ....   ;)

This was some pretty industrial plastic film. And it did shrink down nicely with the application of many minutes with the hair dryer on high. I didn't do it quite right as I've now got a large horizontal wrinkle/trough from top right to lower left, but the thing sealed and it's noticeably warmer in here. And I don't spend a lot of time looking out that window anyway....

I have shrinky dink sheets that I bought right after I moved here because I missed my childhood. I never used them. I need to dig them out and make some Christmas crafts or something.

I followed the updates from friends there, the last storm 8 years ago at my house we had 3" and at the end of the road about a mile away it was 5+ feet. Lake effect snow is wild and I kinda miss it.

For the big windows always do a double-row of tape especially around the corners. I'd sometimes add some packing tape for good measure. I never had issues with moisture, but between that and heavy curtains it made a huge difference in warmth. There's also putty you can put in any gaps before the plastic. It's way too wet here for that and I am freezing, it's like our rental has no insulation at all. It is boiling in summer and frigid in the winter. So grateful for electric blankets and cats!
