Oh boy. I hope it misses her.
So do I. At this point I am, as they say in the vernacular, "having kittens!!!
Most of the models are now saying it will decrease in intensity before it gets up there, but it could potentially go up to a Cat 4 - the forecasts are all over the place. One model has it going right past her, to the left and just offshore, while still a hurricane at Cat 1 or 2, and making landfall basically south of LA. So, she'd be on the "bad" side of the storm. (She's about a mile inland from the coast.) Ah, SoCal, they do so very well with excess rain there.... Other models have it jogging slightly to the right, and making landfall in Baja. Which will be bad for Baja but better for the Daughter. And heck for Arizona, later on.
On the good side, she went out on her lunch break and bought some canned food that doesn't need to be heated to be eaten, in case the power lines go. Which isn't out of the question, really, out there. And a couple of candles. Smart girl.
At least worrying about the hurricane keeps me from worrying about the wildfire that is exploding in the countryside east of town there.
Edit Thursday night: Yep, it's up to a Cat 4 now. (sigh) And, apparently, "massive" and moving quickly.
Friday night: Ok, they say it's now 1,000 kilometers wide and could make it almost to a Cat 5. But that it should start to weaken tomorrow evening and be "only" a tropical cyclone or a Cat 1 when it hits San Diego on Sunday with more rain in parts of the county falling in 24 hours than they normally get in a year. Oh my.
