Override of fees for NHS workers!
« on: May 22, 2020, 11:39:12 AM »
Hi! I was not sure where to put this subject but many have seen the report that NHS fees for foreign workers will be waived. I am assuming that is on the visa? If anyone knows more on this topic please let me know. I am preparing for a visa three out of four to be submitted in October ( Came here on a fiancee visa in Dec 2017). We are classed as NHS for my job. Hoping this puts me in a category to qualify for this waiver. Thanks as always for any insight!

It's fantastic news.  They have said the details will be announced in the coming days.  Hopefully we'll know who qualifies, how, and all of that in a couple of weeks time.

Who will qualify for a free IHS will be announced on the government site in due course. There are lot of agency workers who are not paid by the NHS,  asking the same things on other sites e.g. cleaners.

Hello! Just wondering if you heard any word about the override for NHS workers from your MP? I am also wondering if it matters who is in the NHS. In my case, my spouse is my sponsor and his financials are what we show as our income. Yet I am the one with the visa and I work in Pharmacy. I hope you got some clear answers so you do not ( fingers crossed) have to pay. Seems a bit unfair anyway when we pay taxes and work for them as well!

Is it allowed or hard for someone on a spousal visa to get a job within the NHS? My wife has been working in a clerical role in the healthcare industry for the past couple years and would love to get a position in the NHS.

It is all going to be based on her skill set. It's hard to say if it will be hard or easy per se because there are so many roles. What I did was look up similar jobs to mine and looked to see what was required. It is a big culture shock to get used to contacting insurances vs not! There is also private insurance clinics also. Good luck!x

You are certainly allowed to get a job within the NHS with a spouse visa.  As for the difficulty, it's dependent on the role, skills, experience, how you compare with other job applicants for the specified job, and any necessary (if applicable) licensing requirements with professional registration bodies.  I also recommend looking up roles within the NHS and seeing how they compare with her previous job role.  There may be UK/US differences that would pose a hurdle, but there might be roles where they are pretty equivalent between both countries and UK-specific experience would be less critical.

Good luck!

Published on Thursday. Details put here-
https://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=98601.msg1303840#new

This is for those on a visa with a generic right to work. IHS claimed back every 6 months, after working at least 16 hours a week over the full 6 months. Commencing on or after 31 March 2020.

Those on the newTier 2 General Heatlh and Care work visa, or who are on a Tier 2 General work visa and would have qualifed for the Health and Care visa, have a different system. Their visas are sponsored by their employer.
