Starting School - What should parents know?
« on: June 12, 2020, 10:42:53 AM »
Hi all,

My son is starting reception in September. We know everything is up in the air with what that will look like come autumn, but we are getting him excited about going to the "big kids' school". We are sending him to an independent school as it was the best fit for him after visiting our state and independent options.

I feel really out of my depth with primary school - in a past life I was a professor and have worked in higher ed ever since. I've been taking the council's EYFS Family Maths & English classes to wrap my head around terminology, pedagogy & structure.

What are things you wished you knew when your child started school?
