For the VAF2, you'll need to pay the fee for yourself and any children you're bringing to the UK.  So yep...you have to pay twice.   :-\\\\

CRIKEY!!!  That's $988.00 USD.  That's a lot of money.  But, oh well, it's the sacrifice one must make for their child.  Thanks for all of your help.

WOW, peedal...you had your hands full with that expense...my boyfriend says it's better to do my visa first, then my son's.  do you know if they'll allow me to do this, since my son is included on my settlement form?

I don't see any reason why you can't do your application first.  Lots of kids join their parents in the UK once the parents have settled, so I'm assuming that they simply go through the application process separately from their mom or dad.  If you're applying for a fiancee' visa, though, you'll need to get them done close together as that visa is only good for 6 months.  You don't want your visa to expire before your son gets his!

o.k., lola.  that's understandable.  I just don't wanna sound really ignorant, as I am new at this and there are so many questions, so much money to invest, and so little time to do all of this.  But, on a settlement package, it asks me if any dependants will be joining me.  Am I to put no and file a separate settlement package for him or is there another form for dependants joining parents?

I have my appointment for myself and three of my five children this coming week...yep, you get to pay for everyone who wants to obtain a visa! I had some questions and emailed the embassy and they emailed me back. One of the questions I had asked was about the visa fee and if it was ok to pay by credit card that day (which it is) but she wrote in her reply that it is $520 USD (my online applications still say $494) so I am waiting until I am there next Wednesday to see if the fee has indeed gone up because the weakness of the dollar. (My husband will be paying with UK fueled credit card, so maybe on his end it is still the same in pounds as it was for the $494, they've just had to up the dollar amount for the exchange fee?)

Also forgot to add that my 15 year-old daughter will be joining us when the school year ends. I would have applied for a visa for her at the same time but she doesn't even have a passport yet, so I am sending off for that for her and then can apply for a visa for her when I am in the UK (the person you are applying for still has to be here in the US when you apply though.) Hope this makes sense?

I'd just put "no" for now and apply for his visa later.  You'll just need to fill out another form for him later, since he'll be applying at a separate time.

How far apart are you thinking of applying?  It might be easiest to wait and save up the money (if that's why you're wanting to apply separately) and do them both at one time just to lessen the headaches.

Good luck!   :D

well, I'm wanting to wait about a month (for $$$ reasons) before applying for my son's.  He already has his passport (which helps alot).  But, by applying for him separately, which form will I need to use?

I think I would really just wait and apply for you both together-- it much simpler all the information only needs to be provided once!! I know the expense is awful-- but just put aside the money you have for yourself for now and save up for your son. Good Luck!!

I agree with HG .  Just wait an extra month and apply for both visas at the same time--don't add in extra headaches for yourself (there are enough built-in ones for this process!).   ;)

I third HG's suggestion.  Trust me - it's so much easier to do it all at once.
