Stimulus cheque issue
« on: June 14, 2020, 05:06:20 PM »
Hey,

So I went through the other stimulus cheque posts and could not find someone in same situation.

Basically, like others the payment bounced from my wife's US account as it was "inactive" due to her being in UK.

They then sent her a cheque instead which went to her family who mailed it to us in the UK.

Great! We recieved the cheque
We tried to deposit in Monzo account but they don't deal with foreign currency and sent the cheque back.

Okay still great, we will open up a Barclays account as she will also have to deposit her tax return cheque

The problem is when the cheque was returned the dog ate the mail. And of course we recovered the $1200 cheque in 3 pieces.

Does anyone know how we can get the IRS to resend the cheque? :(

Assuming your wife had a UK bank or financial account by the end of December 2019, make sure you included Schedule B, Part III. This is not optional. Although not a tax return and not filed using turbotax, don't forget FBARs for 2019 or future years if required.

Call them, i'm sure you'd need to send back the destroyed payment though. I understand that you can ask for a payment card for your $1,200, maybe a better and simpler option.

RBS will deposit a foreign cheque, if you can't get a payment card -- or did at least as recently as January. That's the main reason I have any bank loyalty.

Good idea thank you, do you know what the correct number is?
