ILR with problem with my passport
« on: June 18, 2020, 05:03:34 PM »
My FLR expires the 11th of August. I still need to pass my life in the uk test, i believe I have the knowledge needed to pass the test just awaiting my test date whilst continuing to study the books.

The problem I have is my passport expired in February of this year. I have every intention to renew it before it expired but due to unexpected finance difficulties I was unable to renew it. I am now over those financial difficulties that I can pay to get my passport renewal but the US is not processing passport renewals according to the consulate website. A update as of today says they are only processing emergency passports until further notice.

I know the emergency passport is available if you are due to travel within 7 days, which does not include me as I do not want to travel I just want to be my passport renewed. Since they ask for proof of travel I don't see me being able to get the emergency passport and even if I am able to get said emergency passport I am uncertain the UK will grant ILR on an emergency passport?

Needless to say this is causing me bit of stress not knowing which way I  can turn. I know August is still a little ways off but also know when they start accepting passport renewals there is bound to be a backlog/flood of renewal applications.

I would appreciate any suggestions or information that anyone might be able to share.

Oh wow.  I'm sure you won't be the only one in this situation.  I'd email the embassy and see what they say.  I suspect it'll take a couple of weeks for a response but they are best placed to answer.

So I have made contact with the consulate. Not getting a straightforward answer from them except wait until 7 days imminent travel.

I tried calling the US consulate and all they say on the phone is that the passport department is not talking any phone calls and to use the contact form on the consulate website. The response from the contact form was more of a auto response, once again say that they are not doing full validity passports for the foreseeable future. It also mentioned waiting until 7 days before imminent travel to contact them.

It did have a paragraph that mentioned if your urgent need is not to do with travel to respond to the email, which is what I did. I am currently waiting for their response.

I wanted to ask here what happens if despite emailing them why I need a passport urgently, what happens if I cannot get a passport that is not expired before my visa is due?

I know its a month away and I am still hopefully I will be able to get an emergency passport before my visa expires. I just want to know if there are any other options.

I’ve heard a couple of people have sent their passports for renewal and they’ve been forwarded to the US for processing.  I’d see if that’s an option.  There ARE people getting their renewals for visas.  Push hard!

So i'm still trying to get my passport sorted  :-X

Calling the consulate gets me nowhere as there is no one that can put me through to and all I can do is email.

All of the emails that I send are still getting me no closer to getting even an emergency passport. I am not giving up on it though, I keep rewriting my emails in different ways in hopes that will not misread it with them thinking I am trying to ask the US Consulate for a UK visa.

In the meantime I have been working on getting all my documents together and get the application filled in. I don't want to wait until the last moment and they get it all together in a stressful rush.

This leads me to a question on the application form:
Quote
Do you or your partner have any physical or mental conditions which require at home personal care or medical assistance?

I have answer this as yes as my wife has physical disabilities that she requires care. I am her main carer with another carer that works along side me. My question is not related to that question it relates to the proof they are asking for:

Quote
You will have to provide a headed letter from a medical practitioner who holds either an NHS consultant role, or who appears in the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council. The letter must provide a private practice or hospital address and include full details of any medical conditions you or your partner have.

How specific of a letter are they asking for? Just her different conditions or why her different conditions require care? Should the letter also state that I am my wife's main carer alongside professional carers that come in to assist me?
