Yeah, I'll be using the app as well. I'm not able to stand in queues and don't feel safe indoors yet. At least we will have a few comparisons for timing if anyone opts out of the app. I do wish we could have had them scan, but I just hope they are more lenient asking for missing docs if anything was missed/scanned wrong.

We received the email today about the app as well.  We will wait and use the app so we don't have to travel to Glasgow for an appointment and have the extra expense of a hotel stay.  We just hope that processing will be done quickly as we worry we might need to go to the US if my spouse dad becomes ill he is 96!!  We would have paid the extra to have had super priority but due to lockdown we have to wait..

We also received the email about opting into the new “app”. However have decided to opt out as we would prefer attending an appointment and also having our documents scanned there and then rather than using this new so called app...

Anyone else’s opted out and going down the appointment route?

We have already uploaded all our docs to the UKVCAS site so no need for us to travel and have to stay over for biometrics to be done if we can do it through the new app. will be interesting to compare timelines with people who applied for the same visa at the same time but using the two different methods for biometrics.

We applied for my ILR on July 22nd. Haven't heard anything yet, as expected. Though I think if I find out I'm eligible for the app thing, I'll still opt for an appointment instead... We'd need an appointment anyways, as we're going to have our documents scanned. My husband works for the government and is big on security. Though I'm sure Sopra Steria is a secure site, he doesn't feel comfortable submitting our documents over the internet.
Hi Karlee,
Did you receive the email about using the app. Have you opted out and going for a biometrics appointment instead?

Looks like they might be catching up... I only submitted the extension application on 25 Jul and finished uploading docs on 1 Aug. I wasn't expecting to see anything from UKVCAS for a few more weeks. I received an email this evening telling me I am eligible to have my biometrics reused and to use the IDV app to upload my photo and "supporting information." I've already submitted my docs so I'm not really sure what they mean by supporting information - copies of other forms of ID perhaps? I have until Monday to opt out. I'm leaning towards the app at the moment though it feels like a gamble  ???

If you opt out on or up to 17:00 (5 pm) on 10 August 2020, UKVCAS will send you an email during week commencing 10 August 2020 inviting you to book an appointment at a UKVCAS service point.

Email received this morning that my application will not be processed within the 8 weeks.

So far able to reuse biometrics and IDV app emails received as well. Now I wait!

Hey there,

I’ll throw in my update for timeline purposes....I applied for FLR(M) on 17 July. This morning, I received the email saying they can reuse my biometrics/IDV app introduction. They’ve given me four days to opt out. I Initially wanted Sopra to do the scanning as I don’t have a scanner anymore and trying to get one now, with so many people working from home, has proved difficult.

I’ve used my iPad to scan basic things but never for a big load of documents. Have any of you used a tablet for this process? Any recommendations for it?

Thanks!

Hi all

With a lot of us having 2 days left to decide whether to use the app or opt out, what’s the general consensus?

I’m tempted to use the app as we were going to upload our own documents anyway.

However, after reading the email it seems that you may get an appointment quicker opting out. They say if you opt out you will get an appointment date next week.

Who knows how long the app could take to process?

I'm going to use the app. I submitted my application on June 4th and all my documents are already uploaded, so it's just the app I'm waiting on now.

for those asking about scanning it yourself, I used Adobe Scan on my phone (free app from the app store, I'm on Android) and it worked a treat. If you need to shrink PDFs, you can do it through the Adobe Scan website (handy for passports and larger documents).

The opt-out just states we would be sent an email inviting us to book an appointment the following week. That doesn’t seem to guarantee any reasonably close appointments or that the appointment you book will actually be quicker than the app. I’m not sure where appointments are right now but surely they’re out a few weeks.

Applied for FLR(M) on July 13. Got a follow up email on July 30 requesting I send more documents which I did on July 31. (I am going with savings and sent 6 months up to May but they needed June also.) I received the email stating I could use the app yesterday. (Aug 6.)

Gonna go with the app and not have to rent a car and ask for time off work etc.

Just a general question. Do people feel like this is a good thing if we are offered to use the app in terms of our application?

Thanks,

NWKH
