Nothing from IRS
« on: July 16, 2020, 10:04:55 PM »
Well, it's now been over 4 months since my tax returns were signed for and nothing has happened. I'm owed $1034. Sent a couple of emails on their site the last couple of weeks.....no response. Kind of think I will have to send in something else at some point.......first time this has happened to me.

We sent ours in very early on in the season, via paper copy and the mail. I got my refund about two weeks ago. They literally were not processing paper copies until only just recently.

Long thread on early retirement.org discussing all the delays, so it is happening to plenty of folks living in the USA, not just ex-pats.

Guess I will let things ride for a little while longer then. The tax return was signed by them on 10 March. Not too thrilled that nobody has responded to the contact emails I've sent....it's been a couple of weeks waiting for that.

Internal IRS memos say that because of the shutdown on centralised print sites they implemented programming changes to the Masterfile on May 14 and May 21. Refunds scheduled to settle earlier are now scheduled to settle in the cycle beginning August 17, 2020.

Good news and bad news from the IRS this July.

The good: the agency reopened for business as of July 13th, which means it is now taking phone calls and processing tax filings as quickly as possible.

The bad: during a year when every dime counts, the agency says as many as 4.7 million tax refunds will be delayed another few months.

FWIW, I submitted my (paper) tax return in late March and received the refund this week (Aug 12).

FYI

OP also received his refund recently, as reported in a different thread.

It seems a bit strange to me that they seemed to have done all the mail-in returns at the same time? I'm sure there is some kind of a conspiracy theory rumour I could start...... ::)
