I-phone plans.
« on: July 29, 2020, 08:31:29 AM »
I'm going to get an iPhone SE, finally!  [smiley=balloon.gif]

I've never had a smart phone before so I'd love some recommendations for providers and plans, low cost and with a company which is easy to deal with preferably. Any gother advice would be great too. Thanks!

I’m with Three - not sure how their phone-included contract prices compare, as I have a SIM-only contract, but I like Three for their Go Roam service.

With Go Roam, I can use the included data in my plan for free in 71 countries, plus calls and texts to UK numbers are also free in those countries. Calls/texts to foreign numbers are still extra though. So, when I go to the US, for example, I can just use the 4G data on my phone for no extra charge.

Are you planning to get the iPhone SE on contract, or buy the phone and then get a SIM-only contract?

I recently got an iPhone 8 (just before the new SE was released, or I would have gone for the SE), and I ordered it on Amazon and used £100 Amazon vouchers towards it. So, I just pay £13/month for a SIM-only contract (unlimited calls/texts plus 12GB data). With the vouchers, it worked out a good £200 cheaper overall than getting the phone on contract.

Thanks ksand!  :) Yes, I should have mentioned, I'm going to buy the phone and get a SIM-only contract.

I liked Three when I used them for payg internet years back when I was just visiting here.

I've been using three PAYG since I moved. I tend to only stream music/video when on WiFi at home and the price for data when out means that I can use waze etc fairly affordably. I think I've spent £80 in 3 years on top ups! If I was working somewhere that didn't have WiFi I'd get one of their plans that includes data so I can listen to more music.

I've got a mega cheap monthly contract on EE.  I have EE because it's about the only thing that shows up as bars on my phone where I live.

Cool :).

Another good thing with Three (don’t know if other networks offer a similar thing) is that if you have a plan with 12GB data or more, you get Go Binge! included, which gives unlimited use of Netflix, TVPlayer, Snapchat, Soundcloud, Apple Music and Deezer, without it coming out of your data allowance.

So I can stream as many shows/movies on Netflix as I like on my phone without using up any of my data :)

I used to work at giffgaff and for what it’s worth they are a good company that tries to do what’s right.  They use the same equipment as O2 so any phone unlocked to 02 will work with giffgaff.
Phatbeetle has a point, find out what network works near your home.

Thank you everyone for your help.  :)

I have chosen a plan!  It took me all day to research but in the end I decided on iDmobile, they use Three's network. Although their call centre is closed due to Covid, (and I couldn't use their web chat without one of their mobile numbers) they are partnered with Carphone Warehouse so I was able to call them instead with all my questions.
What sold them to me was the 30 day plans which can be changed or cancelled any time, unused data rolls over, there is bill capping you can set yourself so no surprise charges and they have a great double data offer on at the moment. Glad that's done!  :)

Take a look at the current deals, you might be able to double your data for the same price!  :)

What are peoples thoughts on phone storage? Is it worth paying £50 more for double or is 64gb a good amount?

£419 for 64gb
£469 for 128gb

I'd personally pay the extra, but I use a lot of different apps

What’s your current phone and do you run out?
Do you take a lot of pictures or videos?
Do you download a lot podcasts?

It’s only £50 more, so personally, I would probably go for the 128GB.

My previous iPhone (which was an old SE) only had 16GB of storage and I would run out all the time - I would have to delete a load of music off it, just so I could update my apps!

My new iPhone has 64GB, which is much better, but I would have preferred 128GB (they only had the 64GB and 256GB ones on Amazon, and the 256GB was too expensive).

PB, ksand, that's my feeling too, I didn't need much persuasion! .. It's on the way!  ;D
