Can anyone confirm that if we have uploaded our documents on the app then we don’t need to take anything with us should we decide to undertake an in person appointment? I gather that the only thing they need for the in person appointment is the biometrics?

It certainly seems like all of us who had used the app would be better off grabbing an appointment as who knows how long it will take for them to sort this out. It’s definitely concerning that they are not using the app moving forward when it comes to us.

According to the confirmation, you're supposed to bring them:

"Please note you must bring to your appointment:

the attached confirmation notice, containing the QR barcode for each group member – without it you cannot attend the appointment
all your original supporting documents – you will need them to complete your appointment, even if you have already uploaded copies online"

Wow! Seriously? That seems like such a waste of time to duplicate what has already been done.

We have always advised taking your documents with you to the appointment anyway, just in case something didn’t upload properly and it needs to be rescanned.

I imagine this is the main reason for taking the documents with you - so they can check the uploads are all in order.

The cynic in me says they find any reason to send you home quickly for failing to follow the instructions (especially ones that don't seem terribly efficient in this modern age of technology). That's bureaucracy for you.

Congrats j2j on your approval!

While I am very happy for you - This is also proof that opting out of the app and going for an appointment leads to faster approvals.
In fact, as far as I can see, no one who opted FOR the app has yet been approved. Am I right about that?

I applied online on APRIL 15, opted for the app, did everything as soon as I was invited to do so, and now - nothing.

Here's my question - For those of us who have already gone the app route, but have not been approved... Can we switch lanes and also make biometric appointments?
Has anyone considered this?
Do you think it will be allowed by the system?

We are wondering this too, Keep thinking we should try and get an appointment but we would have a 2 hour drive to the closest center and we would need to stay over. so it would work out expensive...

So so so happy for you!! We had very similar timeframes, but this just shows that the app route is probably not the best way to go, since that's what I did.

I also took the chance and booked a FREE appointment. The idea of giving them even more money for a service that I've already paid dearly for just sticks in my craw. I can wait - and perhaps my approval will come through in the meantime.

I’m sure your approval will be imminent. The only reason we decide not go via the app route was because I work in technology consulting and I was just not comfortable in submitting documents via an app which I know has not been thoroughly tested, yes the appointment route makes a bit more complicated but we were able to find an appointment in london.

But I am sure given that UKVI / UKCVAS have resumed to normal operations, they are probably in the midst of clearing up backlogs.

Hang in there :-)

I don't think our approval is imminent. You contacted your MP with an "urgent need" to see family, my MP is a tory who doesn't care about family immigrants so will do absolutely nothing for us. When he was campaigning I asked what he thought about the hostile environment and the policies in place for family immigrants and he was clear he only supports skilled immigration and encourages the extortionate fees to discourage family immigration. I really need to move, but we can't afford a move and having to start all over again with medical care.

These are the exact questions I am wondering too.

I am worried that trying to switch lanes is going to add additional complications or jeopardise the application in some way.

There are a number of applicants who did dual submissions - through the app and then booked appointments. Originally this was allowed by the system, though I have heard of some who weren’t able to find an appointment after submitting via IDV.

From what I can tell it isn’t adversely affecting the process. Some who submitted this way got quick decision. It’s all assumption and conjecture, no solid evidence to support any of the various combos of applying.

It appears to be allowed - a few applicants had to escalate for urgent reasons after submitting through IDV and the UKVCAS helpline suggested they move forward with also booking an appointment.

I’d say do what you feel is best.

The system permitted me to book an appointment even though I've already submitted my scan via the app. What will happen at the appointment is anyone's guess. At this point, I feel like I need to try every avenue out there. Doing nothing is making me feel completely stressed out. I am not especially optimistic about either option, but I can't just sit here twiddling my thumbs.

i’m starting to get increasingly frustrated as i’ve seen april applicants who’ve used the IDV app and gotten decisions while i’m still stuck here in limbo.

not sure why they’re not just doing this in chronological order
