Hello All

Could I ask anyone that wrote to their MP to possibly give me some insight on what you wrote?

I’m going to write to mine today as I submitted my application March 28 (8 months) and submitted my biometrics August 26th (3 months this week).

Just getting a bit ridiculous now I think and well past a date I should have heard something....

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Someone here posted the letter they sent (I sent one too), and it was very well crafted, IMHO. If you'd like me to reshare it, I'd be happy to do so. You'd just have to cut and paste with the appropriate details/refinements. It may be better if it comes from the MP's constituent, but I sent it (I'm not a citizen with voting rights yet) and my MP responded via email in just a few days. I was surprised, to be honest!

Hi Heidi,

I know you wasn't talking to me, but do you mind sharing the letter? I also plan on sending something to my MP.

I applied April 17th with Biometrics done on August 25th and still no reply. It's been exactly 3 months today since biometrics.  :( I'm starting to panic again.

Here is what I sent:
Dear XXX,

I trust this note finds you well and you and your loved ones continue to stay safe amidst a very difficult time for the country at large given the situation with Covid-19.

I wanted to write to you this afternoon with the hopes of receiving some support with regards to my XXXXXXXX application with UKVI.

By way of introduction, my name is XXXX and I am a XXXX constituent. I reside at XXXXXXXX.

I wanted to bring your attention to my current XXXXXXX application. My unique application reference number is XXXXXX.

Please see the below timeline of dates.

June 11th 2020: Submitted online application for XXXXXXX.

August 1st: Received standard generic email from UKVI advising on application processing and operational delays due to Covid-19. At that point, I was given the option to reuse my existing biometrics once an app was released or wait until in person appointments became available.

August 28th: Received email inviting me to use the app to submit my updated photo.

August 29th: Submitted my information via the app.

September 22nd: Announcement on the Sopra Steria site stated that all applicants who used the app would be updated in two weeks (by Oct 3rd).

September 24th: This guidance was removed with no constructive additional information provided.

After seeing approvals come through for others who applied after I did - but opted for in person appointments - I have booked an in person appointment for October 16th in the hopes that this may help expedite my visa.

It has now been over 15 weeks (100+ days) in total since my online application submission on June 11th via UKVI, and I have yet to receive my updated visa and new Biometric Residence Permit. I understand that in a normal pre-pandemic world, applications for XXX would be processed in about XXXX weeks or so.

During this time, I have been unable to even consider scheduling travel out of the country to visit my immediate family (including my elderly mother and my adult son) overseas. This has taken place during a very difficult time where mental health and well-being is already being tested, only to be exacerbated by the lack of processing or movement with XXXXX applications.

I am by no means criticising UKVI or Home Office processes. I do understand the severe impact Covid-19 has had across all our lines of business, our professional lives, our health, our mental health and our overall day to day mindset. I would, however, be much obliged if you could please look into the status of my application.

In closing, please continue to stay safe, and thank you for your exemplary stewardship and servant leadership for the borough. I confess, due to my sense of hopelessness, I have never written to a political representative before, but perhaps the system in this country is more responsive to the people it represents.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Closing and name.

I was posting it while you were typing! As I said, I borrowed the email from someone else here, so they are not my exact words, but it was a place to start. I heard back from the MP in three days. Her response was polite and thoughtful, but she said she couldn't really do anything until the six month processing time had elapsed (that's the standard for ILR). Fortunately, my approval came through before the six month period elapsed so I didn't have to press her to follow up.

For twitter they told me it was submitted to UKVI on Aug. 27th which is when I submitted on the app. I wasnt sure if I could find anymore information from them though is there more info I may be able to get from them?

Thanks for the template for the letter I am going to try and hold out till the end of this month and attempt calling again and if I dont get anywhere with that I may try the letter would be my last option as I dont know what more I could do. I am trying to be as patient as possible as I know there are still a few people left before me and I dont want to be unfair pushing my application when they still havent heard back but I currently have other stresses popping up now that I dont want to deal with till I get this visa out of the way

Needless to say this year has just been terrible and I cant wait for it to be over.

You're well within your rights to make a stink though, the service standard for FLR(M) is 8 weeks! I'd be concerned there might be something flagged wrong on your app so it isn't hitting the right queue at this point, it should be reviewed by them. When I "escalated" it was solely to make sure they had everything needed and my approval came 2 weeks later, so I don't know if it'd gone down a hole somewhere and then was assigned properly after the review. Please don't hold off on writing your MP. The office can't do anything until lockdown is over but I think MP's need to know they are still not through the backlog.

Keep collecting your mail. And get started with studying for the life in the UK test. That's not something you want to be scrambling to do at the last minute!  :)
