Virginians to London
« on: August 27, 2020, 03:12:04 PM »
Hello!  My wife and I will be moving to the London area for her job this fall.  Originally from MD and PA, we have lived in Richmond, VA for the last 10 years.  We're thrilled to take the leap to become expats!

While we have a ton of things to work out, the most pressing matter on my mind today is a financial one - namely that we will rent out our home in Virginia, and I want to make sure we don't unwittingly set anything up now that could create tax nightmares (or extra expenses) down the road in the UK.  Any advice or resources there would be greatly appreciated.  I have similar concerns as well about our 401K's and other assets here at home.

Longer-term, we're excited to meet others and get everyone's London and GB tips.  We've always been avid travelers and are looking forward to exploring GB and Europe in depth once travel returns to normalcy.

All the best and thanks in advance for any guidance and/or tips!
