Grand total with new price increase happening in October
« on: September 10, 2020, 12:25:13 PM »
Hello! I am just a bit confused on the total price I will need to pay on my upcoming third marriage visa ( the third out of four). I am confused because my visa is due the month the fees go up! ( this October). I am scrambling to make sure I have the full amount. I also am wondering if it goes into effect fully this October. I need to know what the full cost will be with the new change. I am not going to pay for any expidited service just the fees. This will be the first time I am sending it electronically so I assume there is not a fee attached to that as well. Thank you for any information on this.

According to FreeMovement.org.uk the price of the IHS will increase to £624/year and will come into effect on 1st October:

Though the UK Parliament website only says 'October 2020' and doesn't seem to specify the 1st:

So, your visa fees should be:
FLR(M) visa fee = £1033 + £19.20 (biometrics fee) = £1053.20
IHS surcharge = £624 x 2.5 years = £1,560

Additional and/or optional fees:
Biometrics appointment if you need to/decide to attend one = £110 (looks like there are no free appointments available for 2-3 months so most people are having to pay for one)
Document scanning at biometrics appointment (if you don't want to upload yourself) = £49.99

See here for more information about biometrics appointments and services:

The government sites say 1 October 2020.

Subject to Parliamentary approval, the UK government will increase the surcharge as per the manifesto commitment the people voted for just six months ago. This increase will be introduced as of 1 October.

You might? maybe? have caught a break? The above draft legislation; The Immigration (Health Charge) (Amendment) Order 2020; has been replaced to enable the new Health and Care visa that has no health charge to pay, to be added to this Statutory Instrument.

The replacement legislation does not have the date of 1 October 2020, just 2020.

I just noticed this. A 56% increase in IHS surcharge is madness. I don't see how the government can sanely justify such an increase although I do see the government media fact sheet on it says "The Immigration Health Surcharge will be raised from £400 to £624 a year for most visas, so that a fair contribution is made to broadly reflect the cost of providing treatment". So I guess the government reckons that all immigrants are leeches and none of them work and pay taxes.

Yep. Although, with the hostile environment and xenophobia many of us do struggle to find secure employment. But our spouses of course have been paying in all along and continue to. On another forum I saw someone moving on a tier 2 visa with 5 children, their IHS surcharge will be over £10000.

It’s absolutely infuriating!! Back in June, I was so annoyed that I did a bunch of research into the briefing papers/impact assessments/etc that went into this decision and contacted my MP with a few questions about how/why the new figure was reached (for example, the government’s own impact assessment seemed to say that they didn’t even consider taxes paid by migrants into the system when calculating the new figure).

Conveniently, my original email + two follow ups sent across June and July were “missed” by his office and I never got a response. But when I contacted his facebook page in mid-August, they reached out within an hour. Realllllly interesting that all 3 of my emails just so happened to be missed though. ;D

Anyway, I’ve been following up every couple of weeks and still haven’t had a response but I will post about it here if his office comes back with anything of interest.

This has been to the the House of Commons and the House of Lords and approved by both. Waiting for a Minister to sign this legislation and the 21(?) days wait for the start date.

If you are on a generic visa that allows you to work and your work is NHS related -

If you are on a Tier (General) work visa -

If the applicant is in the UK on a Tier 2 (General) visa, working in an eligible health or social care occupation, meaning they would benefit from exemption under the health and care visa offer, they should not claim a reimbursement through this scheme. Instead they should contact the Home Office at IHSrefunds@homeoffice.gov.uk to claim a refund, for any time remaining on their visa after 31 March 2020.

The draft was approved by both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. It was signed on 6 October and therefore made a statutory instrument.

For those that are required to pay the  the Immigration Health Charge, by my calculation,  this will rise from 27 October 2019.
