Disney seems to be a huge trip right now for people in the US. Folks flying here , there, everywhere. People deliberately travelling to Texas  because they don't have their mask requirements and are fully open.    Different world!

My SIL's uncle died from covid - BECAUSE THE HOSPITAL WAS OUT OF VENTILATORS.  But they are part of the "covid is a conspiracy camp".  Don't wear masks, won't get vaccinated (when able).

Oh and my brother was in the ER last week with chest pains and he was diagnosed with some heart thing AS A RESULT OF COVID.

Sorry to hear.  It's baffling when people are poorly, or know someone poorly, and still continue to believe conspiracy theories that are actively detrimental to their health.

I'm getting increasingly angry when I go on Facebook lately. More and more of the girls I worked with (all registered nurses) are living it up. Weddings with over 100, no masks or social distancing. Huge family trip to Disney...on a plane. Very essential. Again masks down to take pictures because why not. Baby showers? No problem. Let's just all forget what's going on.

I just can't. Some of these girls have actually had covid. And they still don't care.

So happy I live here. They've lost the plot.
I know many in the UK who have done the same throughout the pandemic. It's madness how so many healthcare workers decided they could put people in the community at risk, including their patients. And Health and Safety England has done nothing about violations so why would they care while working on the frontline? (obviously very selfish people, but with no consequences they won't change behaviour)

Got a letter in the post today.  My second Pfizer jab is April 10th.  It'll be just eight weeks after my first, so not as long as it could've been.  That is all.

(I mean, that is enough... I'm thrilled!)

Fantastic news!  :D

Awesome. Ours is May 15th, was made 12 weeks after we got our first shot.

I took a friend down to an outpatient eye clinic yesterday to have his eye lasered clear.  He had cataract surgery a couple of years ago and often the sac the new lens sits in gets cloudy. Next to the eye clinic was a Covid vaccination center and I watched a stream of taxis bringing very elderly folks to be vaccinated so I assumed they were all getting 2nd shots.

Got a phone call from our son yesterday (Saturday). His NHS Covid app alerted him to the fact that he had been in close contact with someone who had tested positive and has to self isolate for another 9 days. He called his boss who told him that he knows who it is and is preparing a message to go out to the team informing that they will be working from home for the next 2 weeks.

Our son is in our family bubble as he lives alone but in February he started a new job requiring him to go into the office while the company took on a new IT support contract. Since he started that job we have kept well clear, even after we received our 1st shot 5 weeks ago. Fingers crossed that he doesn’t actually catch it, it will be a nervous few days. (He is aged 38.)

They go live next week  :(

Keep us posted durhamlad.  Hopefully he hasn’t caught it!

Do you have the lateral flow tests at home (him)?  They are brilliant.

Thanks for this.  From the site you linked to it is clear that he should not go to a local site unless he has symptoms, and also that home lateral flow test kits are only for teachers, pupils etc.

He has been told by the NHS Test and Trace to self isolate and not leave his house and only take action if he develops symptoms.

Quote
If you’ve been told to self-isolate
Do not go to a test site. Order a test if you have symptoms, online or by calling 119.

That all makes sense since lateral flow tests are for those who are going to work or school not knowing that they have been exposed to Covid or are unknowingly already infected. (Asymptomatic)

These have a much higher false negative rate than the PCR tests, but are much faster than them. If you've been exposed and develop symptoms you definitely want the PCR test.

I hope they were wearing masks and distancing Durhamlad. Fingers crossed he and his coworkers stay healthy. This is why the push to return to pubs and offices too soon is not wise, it is still circulating too much.

Thanks margo, I agree that lateral flow tests are not as sensitive as PCR tests and if our son  develops symptoms he will be given a  home PCR test like my sister was, when she developed symptoms and was confirmed as having Covid just before Christmas. She caught it from work and all 6 in her office caught it at the same time even though they were socially distanced, wore masks and had Perspex screens around their desk and kept a window or 2 cracked open.

I don’t think our son’s office is nearly as well planned out although they do wear masks, and they only have one window so we fear the worst, the next few days will be critical. If he does catch it we hope that his age, in his 30s, works in his favor.

1. I love your son's boss's proactive response to being informed your son has to isolate.  It says a lot about the kind of person he works for.

2.  I really hope he didn't have enough exposure to get sick.  But I'm sure his age will be helpful.  Check on with him daily; more often if he develops symptoms.

Thanks, we will be talking every day for sure, and he really does like his boss, gets on very well with him.

Two of my very high risk friends in the US have covid. They'd been mostly isolated, but forced into an apartment recently because their vehicle died on the way to an RV camp (it was their house). They've had their Johnson and Johnson vaccine 3 weeks ago so fingers crossed it was enough to avoid hospitalisation and death, and making their underlying conditions worse. This is why I'm thankful for the lockdowns here, it at least limited community spread.
