Plan B for US Passport Delay due to Name Change
« on: October 12, 2020, 09:30:32 AM »
Hi Everyone,

I'm having a bit of a panic and trying to come up with a plan b.

My wife is in the UK on a fiance visa which expires in a week (19th Oct). We married in the UK on 26th August 2020.
We sent her passport to the US embassy to have her name changed on at the beginning of September and it hasn't returned yet. We believed this would take up to 3 weeks but clearly there is a delay which we have no idea about and had no message from the US Embassy.
If her passport doesn't arrive this week she will not be able to travel back to the USA, or apply for her FLR(M), so I'm not sure what we should do.
The sensible thing to do I guess would be to contact the Home Office but I'm not sure which number to call.
We have emailed the US embassy but no reply and the number to call has no option for discussing passport applications.

Any advice gratefully received.
Phil & Rosa

Have you contacted the US Embassy to find out where her passport is?

The most important thing to do is to get the online FLR(M) application submitted before 19th October.

So, what I would do is fill out the application using her previous passport details, and make sure you submit it before her visa expires.

Then you can delay booking/attending biometrics until the new passport has arrived.

You’ll just need to write a cover letter explaining the passport situation and include a scan of both the old and new passports with your documents.

Thanks for the reply. I think that is a good plan.
