ILR Granted, new BRP arrived today, old BRP missing
« on: November 30, 2020, 02:04:05 PM »
Hi all,

Hope I can get some advise here.

My wife has received her new BRP in the post today and as part of the ILR they have asked her to return the old one of face a £1000 fine.

We took a picture of her old one and scanned it as part of the application but cannot seem to locate where in the house it has been placed! This is the BRP from her FLR(m).

What do we do? Is there a number we can call to advise that the old BRP as gone missing? Will this impact her new BRP in any way?

Hope you can help!

That’s where some of the confusion is coming from because I don’t think we fall into any of these categories.

If your BRP was valid for 3 months or less, you must do one of the following:

report it as lost or stolen if you do not intend to remain in the UK after its expiry date

apply for a replacement if you plan to leave and re-enter the UK within 3 months of its expiry date

apply to extend your visa if you want to stay in the UK after its expiry date - if granted, you’ll automatically get a new BRP

Given that she already has a new visa, the final paragraph seems to be the most relevant but now we are being asked to return something we don’t have.

I would be inclined to write to the address they told you to return it to to explain what has happened and ask them if there is any further action they need you to take. There probably won't be but at least you are being transparent and not just ignoring the request.
Have her hunt for it again first though and put the new one in a *very* safe place once you've scanned it into your computer.

This. You’ll be fine.  Just let them know.
