Good luck! They still don't know if vaccinated people can be asymptomatic spreaders so all self isolation stuff will still apply.

I shared the allergy article today and one of my immunology friends in the US is outraged the NHS is taking the stance that people with a severe allergy history should avoid this first round of vaccinations. I have anaphylactoid reactions to random things, including other vaccines, so my doctors agreed I should be towards the end of the line when more is known about the safety of all 3 so we can choose the most appropriate for me. Since you need two shots, stressing the health service more during this first round and being unable to get the second shot isn't wise!

Yep, I saw a post today that two NHS workers had an allergic reaction.  Apparently both carried epipens becuase they had severe allergies.

Daughter says a friend of hers that works in that field says that this type of shot can produce more inflammatory responses than normal, so that needs to be considered.

Here they are saying that anyone who has had a severe reaction to food, meds, pets, etc., should hold off getting that vaccine until more is understood about it.  That means neither of us can have this version (the RNA version). Daughter had a massive allergic reaction to a pet rat (her face basically swelled shut) and I had a lilfe-threatening reaction to bird dander that left my lungs all scarred up.  Guess we'll wait to see how it goes, or wait for one of the other versions when they come down the pipeline later on.

Hope you all are doing well. Won't be online much, can't sit at the desk too long. Take care.

For all vaccines it is not unusual for some folks to have an allergic reaction, either to the vaccine itself or the solution it is contained in. I read an article that said Pfizer excluded anyone with a prior history of extreme allergic reactions to other vaccines from their phase III trials. And even with those people excluded, there was a 0.63% incidence of allergic reaction among the vaccination group. So I guess this is/was expected in a small percentage of the general population.

I have a sister in law who has a severe allergy to fish products and can't even take a flu vaccine. She is retired now but was a career nurse and found it very inconvenient to be around sick people every week and not be able to be vaccinated against the flu.  She also won't be an immediate candidate for this vaccine.

The issue is they also kept people with known allergy histories out of the trials. I'm looking forward to when they know which is safest, my doctors all said it is likely the Oxford one will be the best bet for me but still need to wait a while to be sure. I'm really annoyed that the immunologist friend was so dismissive of concerns, needing steroids/epi pen after an immunisation makes it ineffective because that blocks the intended/needed immune response.

And this one is not a one-time shot. You have to go back in 21 days for the second one.  If you have a bad reaction to the first one it's a pretty sure bet you're not going to get the second dose. Which means that first dose will have been "wasted" in the sense that the vaccine is in short supply and could have gone to someone else who could take the full course.

Most likely one of the other non-RNA vaccines will be along soon, so by spring we'll have some options. At least, one can hope. https://www.gavi.org/vaccineswork/there-are-four-types-covid-19-vaccines-heres-how-they-work and https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/different-vaccines/how-they-work.html

+1

So far we have one friend who has been vaccinated, as she is a frontline NHS worker.

Looking forward to hearing from more of our friends.

According to this calculator we might expect to get vaccinated anytime between Feb 25th and March 14th.

No idea how accurate it is but it is fun to play with. It works on an assumption of 1m vaccinations/week and an uptake of people wanting it at 70.6%

I'm way down the queue... Sept next year? Come on! Uggh. But hopefully when more vaccines become available that is sped up quicker. I, like anyone, am getting sick of this!

I got between 31/01/2021 and 27/02/2021, so basically, sometime in February.  Second dose will likely be in March, and immunity a week after that.  If they do 1m a week.

Meanwhile, my husband won't be in the priority groups, so we'll see how we handle it when I'm vaccinated but he isn't.

Between July and September for me.  I’ll be very pleased if it’s that soon!  Fun little calculator.  Nice to imagine an end to this.   :D

This!  At the start of it, it was hard to imagine there could be an end in less than 2 years.  But maybe...

Got my jag today.  It’s now 4 hours later and my arm is a bit sore but no big deal.  Just feels a little sore when I move it.

Had an appointment at hospital on Wednesday to get jab .....  the nurses were in today to just give the vaccine to the residents....all staff has to get it at the hospital....but they had six doses left over..... Had just finished my shift and was heading down to the staff room where they were giving the jab when it came over my walkie talkie that they had a few spare doses for staff.  I could here people stampeding down the stairs...lol.... but I managed to get the fifth spot just by being In the right place at the right time.... ;D. I’ll get second dose on January 18.   Saves me getting lost trying to find the hospital and where I have to go in the hospital to get the jag.

I put my info into the Omni calculator..... with working at the care home my slot in the queue  was between 0 and 503 000...... the same info without working at the care home..... I was between 23 million and over 27 million in the queue.......  [smiley=laugh4.gif] [smiley=laugh4.gif]

On a side note....still loving the job.....and in January will go to full time at 40 hours a week.....
