Any way to check on passport renewal? Us Embassy London

I sent my passport in to London over 3 weeks ago and haven't received it back yet. It was to change my last name to my married name. Is there any way to check on it? I need it back soon to apply for FLR (M) next month.

I've posted in another thread that I got mine back in something like 10 days.  That was before Christmas and before the mutant strain.  I also answered the question "Do you have any trips planned?" with dates over Christmas .  Maybe they did it fast because of that.   Sorry if I elbowed you out of the queue because at one point it seemed like we could go to France for Christmas. 
I didn't see anything that said you could check on progress.

Hopefully it shows up in the next week. If not, I may phone the embassy just to see.

When I renewed my US passport a couple of years ago (I know, a lifetime given Covid circumstances) I was able to use this : https://passportstatus.state.gov/

It wasn't able to tell me exactly what was going on but I could tell if it had been processed. Might not be the same but you can try!

@kintheuk I just tried and it says application not found. Were you in the UK when you renewed yours? I’m hoping it’s just because of COVID but that’s got me worried now.

Yes, I renewed in the UK.

Looks like you've got to give them 14 working days to check. Also explains the different statuses and contact numbers.

Thank you @kintheuk. Hmm, It’s been over 14 working days. I did find a contact form to check on the status so I’ve filled that out. Hopefully it’ll either show up or someone will get back to me.

I appreciate that I renewed at a very different time (and didn't want to cause you alarm!) but thought I would throw that link out there.

Just an update. I got a response from my email but they said they can’t check the status at all for me because of reduced staff. Also said if it’s 3 working days before my visa expires to email them back for an emergency appointment to get a new passport.

I think that when it really comes down to it, they will make sure you are taken care of.  Several years back, the UK had my passport for  a really long time and I ended up having to go to the Embassy since I had a flight back to the states.  They were totally nice about giving me another passport, and the UK border guards were completely fine with me using it to come back to the UK even thought it was missing visas. 

Thanks @margo and @jimbocz. I really hope it doesn't end up with me having to get an emergency appointment. I thought when I submitted that it would be more than enough time.

The guy who emailed me back said to use my tracking number to see when it's on the way back but I didn't get one. I got one for when I sent it special delivery to them but the post office didn't give me any other tracking numbers.

I'll just have to wait it out. I'll try not to worry about it for now and plan on worst case scenario if it doesn't show in the next couple of weeks.

Update after 4 weeks, it says it’s being processed. So after a month it’s just now gotten to someone’s desk lol.

It says in my update that processing times vary and it should be processed within the timeframe given by the embassy where I applied...which was 3 weeks 🤣

Update: it has been processed and mailed back to the embassy. I wasn’t given my tracking number for the return special delivery envelope, so hopefully it and my marriage certificate both show up within the next week.
