Finally, it arrived today! Now to hold onto it until I have to start paying back my student loans because I don't anticipate finding suitable work any time soon. :(

Still waiting here.

Anyone else still waiting? Starting to think it’s not going to arrive.

I mean, mine just went through the door this morning so I would assume quite a few others are still waiting. 2-3 months seems standard for mail from the US right now :(

Just a FYI

My daughter did not get the second stimulus check. She got direct deposit for the first one. The online tracker just says payment status unavailable, still. They are no longer updating that system.

We sent in our 2019 tax year 1040s in the same FedEx envelope early on in the tax year. Mine was processed and I got a refund last June. She was not expecting a refund so didn't do any checking on it.

Yesterday she phoned  the IRS number for overseas taxpayers as she couldn't get through on the ones for people in the USA and they had no record of her having filed a 2019 tax return. Since the 2019 was the one they slurped bank and address info off of to generate the 2nd stimulus payment, she, thus, got no payment.  The IRS person said they  were still processing 2019 tax returns but that she should consider sending in a duplicate at some point. (Since she owed no taxes, that shouldn't be a problem.)  They also manually changed her address in their system. We are not sure if that will be enough to generate a payment for her for the upcoming $1,400 stimulus check or not.  (We both sent in change-of-address forms to the IRS in early January. Obviously those are not yet processed. Since our last 1040 address was out of the country, we cannot set up/access any of the "do it yourself online" systems for requesting tax transcripts, etc..)

My hunch is that they ripped open the FedEx envelop and one smaller envelope fell out, and they didn't notice there was another one in there and just tossed the envelope (with her 1040) away into the trash.

I filed my 2020 1040 4 weeks ago, but it took 2 weeks to get to the IRS via certified mail. (Whose online system still doesn't show as it having been opened/received. In a good year they say to allow 4 to 6 weeks for processing.) I  filed head-of-household, which should actually generate her $1,400 to my account. IF the return is processed before they do the direct deposits. Otherwise, there's a possibility that I will have to wait until next year's 1040s go in to claim the credit for her.

Bottom line - if you filed a paper 1040 with the IRS last year, even if you have a "delivered" receipt from your courier of choice, and if you have not heard anything or did not expect to hear anything but want to check on your status, you might want to try to get a tax transcript for the 2019 tax year to make sure they actually have your info. Had my daughter realized her 1040 had not been processed, she could have gone to the IRS's online portal to register her info for the stimulus check back when that portal was open, and would then probably have gotten a payment.

I have been urging her to file online this year, immediately, even though she has no income and owes nothing, so that she can get a direct deposit since it's highly unlikely my 1040 will be processed before they start distributing the stimulus payments and neither she nor I will get the $1,400 for her.

With no income she may struggle to e-file. There is a recent thread on how to e-file with zero income to report.

I've never ad one of these although i file every year, last year (2019 tax year)  was a very  unusual year as my AGI was over 500K so I guess that's why i did not receive anything, however my 2020 return will be AGI of 125K ( MFJ) so once i file this in April and pay my tax, should i expect to see a stimulus payment??

I have received my Stimulus 1.0!  It apparently came in a few days ago, but I didn't check my account until now.  I had to request it as a refund on my 2020 tax return, which I filed electronically (free) via TaxAct on February 26th.  According to my online bank ledger, the refund was direct deposited on March 5th, so it took exactly a week from filing to check deposited.

E-filing with direct deposit is definitely the way to go, if you can. I only filed paper for this last year due to being a part-year resident needing to write directly on the 1040 the treaty information that exempted my overseas-received SS payments from US taxes. I don't intend to file paper again.  I did pay extra to send it certified, and it took just under two weeks to get from the East Coast to the Kansas City IRS office.  Overseas filers I believe still have to send paper forms to the Austin, Texas office. (Things in Texas are still a mess right now.) [If they are filing paper.]

Stimulus income cap for the third round of payments - the point at which you earned too much money to get one (supposedly, as of this morning's news), full $1,400 stimulus checks are to be sent for individuals earning $75,000 or less, and couples earning $150,000 or less. Payments phase out at $80,000 for individuals and $160,000 for married joint filers.

[About paper checks - I have no idea how long it would take to get to you if they end up sending paper checks out - the USPS is pretty erratic right now. I got a letter from the West Coast in three days, last week. But it took three weeks to get something from the mid-west and somewhere in between for a letter sent from three states south of here in the last month, and some items we ordered months ago have never arrived - the tracking just stops. Per a conversation with a USPS employee, during the heavy Christmas rush they were sending mail from MA to somewhere in the mid-west to be sorted because the Trump administration's head honcho appointee had removed a lot of the sorting equipment that they needed in MA. So truckloads got shipped to the middle of the country to be sorted and then returned back to be moved along. Madness. I haven't kept up with things, so I don't know if that same guy is still in charge. As he's a civil service employee (I think), Biden's people cannot sack him other than using the usual, protected process - for incompetence, etc., as with any other employee. They definitely need to get him out of there, though, ASAP if they have not gotten him to resign already.]

Filed taxes every year incl 2019 - do we need to file 2020 to get the check?

No.  But I think you're not the only one still waiting.  I don't know what order they're sending the checks out on, but they seem to be going in batches.

Stimulus #2 ($600) came straightaway for me as a check in the post in late January (my bank app shows that I deposited it on February 1st).

I filed my 2020 tax return weeks later on Febraury 26th, and claimed the first stimulus ($1200) as a rebate in that return.  My refund was direct deposited on March 5th, exactly a week after I e-filed.

Now that I have enjoyed the experience of getting one immediately, and having to claim one as a refund on my tax return, I'm curious to see how stimulus #3 goes for me.  Plus, I'm looking forward to another stimulus.
