Home office email question
« on: January 21, 2021, 03:32:46 PM »
Hi there,

Just a quick question. I got an email today from fhr2@homeoffice.gov.uk saying that my BRP was issued with the wrong expiration and that I need to return it. It looks like it was and I didn't notice. This is a legit email right? The body of the email itself looks a bit unofficial but they've got my case number in the subject so I'm guessing it's fine.

Sorry if it's a silly question, I just wanted to confirm. I'm weary sending the BRP back to them without double checking! Thanks!

Kaitlyn

Yes. It’s legitimate.

If you have concerns, is there not contact info in the footer and an anti-phishing message? You could contact using the footer info.

Hi, thanks for your response. No, this is all the footer said:

**********************************************************************
This email and any files transmitted with it are private and intended
solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed.
If you have received this email in error please return it to the address
it came from telling them it is not for you and then delete it from your system.
This email message has been swept for computer viruses.
**********************************************************************

However, I think it's fine. The case number matches my previous FLR-M emails and the date does appear to be incorrect now that I've looked at it so I went ahead and sent it. I've just never seen an email from them like "FHR2" so it was just a bit weird.

I appreciate your reply!  :)

It’s because of covid. HO were NOT fans of using email before covid. They probably still aren’t ‘fans’ but have had to adjust. So they’ve used caseworkers and set up teams/ email addresses that are still adjusting to communicating with people over emails.

It’s always a good idea to be cautious though.

Communicating with the HO over the phone is a million times worse.
